OMG another Project?!?! Midway Sportstation
« on: May 21, 2015, 10:30:02 am »
Full disclosure , I bought this like 2 months ago and just never had any time to work on it.

Got a sports station set up , in an NBA Jam cab. Has a standard res monitor in it with an average picture. No controls worked.

To do:
Replace standard res monitor with medium res
new CP art, with poly carb and get rid of the miscut plexi
new marquee
rewire controls (it does have 4 x 49 ways!)
patch all the bolt holes in the front
possibly get new side art printed, but at minimum remove the kit stickers and leave the NBA Jam side art as is.
new tmolding ( Im thinkin baby blue?)

Rewired everything and replaced 1 microswitch, all controls are 100%

Now the monitor. A long time ago I bought a medium res monitor from a guy on here knowing it didnt work. Recently arcadecup had a HUGE sale on chassis and neckboards (not neck beards!)
I replaced the chassis ($95) and had the same issue, so then I plopped down another $65 on  the neckboard and I have an absolutely GORGEOUS crisp bright almost factory new picture!

I had to drill 2 holes in the monitor mount, and put new mounting holes in the midway mounts to make the 27" fit in the NBA Jam cab. I need to take pictures of this for anyone else who wants to cram a 27" monitor in a midway cab.

MKII , UMK3, MsPacman, Revolution X, TMNT, Sportstation, Faster than Speed so..... seven. MsPac is my wife's so technically 6 :)
Before I had all fighting games, then traded some for the racing cab, then sold  and traded others to have a more well rounded arcade. Probably wont keep UMK3; and TMNT is worth so much I might have a hard time convincing myself to keep it. I'd love to get a side by side racing cab, like Initial D or Wangan  Maximum Tune. Will probably end up picking up some generic Dynamos to house some multigames (not MAME) and will definitely get a nice 4 or 6 slot NeoGeo. My MAME cab is probably going to get the kibosh soon and get reverted to a dedicated MK4. I want to move the MAME guts into a generic cab instead of a dedicated one. Would love to get a dedicated open ice cab and an arkanoid.

Recent sells include my 2 player dedicated Blitz (sold to fund the sportstation purchase), my 60 in 1 Galaga (just the cab, still have the 60 in 1 board), Killer instinct was traded for Rev X + Cash, Mortal Kombat 1 was traded for the Rampage cab + cash. Rampage was reverted back to TMNT.

Not pictured TMNT and UMK3

Sportstation is actually behind the faster than speed seat, and UMK3 is between MK2 and MsPacman right now.

Since the Sportstation has two games in it, you should get pretty good replay value out of it especially if you have friends that come over.

How about a can of paint so your game room doesn't resemble a rape dungeon?

Its an unfinished garage and not the final resting place of the cabs. You cant just paint unfinished drywall or else it ends up looking like your living room Jim. I'm actually in the middle of finishing the basement, to move the cabs in there. Im afraid if I finish the garage X2 will want to move in.

I made some custom Sportstation instruction cards, based on the Blitz99 instructions and had stpcore print them out for me:

Then I pulled off the CP and cleaned it out.

The washers looked like this:

and all the sticks were like this:

Just some windex and elbow grease to this:

Here is the old CPO:

and this is the new one:

I liked the look of the NBA on NBC CPO a lot, but it was pretty badly damaged and since I couldnt find a replacement one, I went ahead and put the sportstation art on instead. I plan to put the new marquee on this weekend.
