I have a racing seat  in front of a 6 cubby shelf ; you guys consider that a project or does it have to be like more like this http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,142857.0.html ?

I plan to encase it a bit, but dunno what all is considered "project worthy" around here.

Those racing cabinets are supposed to increase your sense of immersion.  The measure of how effective that is for any cabinet is debatable.

That isn't to say you shouldn't share your project.  Perhaps you have a unique way of stowing or mounting the wheel and pedals.  Or routing the power or adding brake lights.

Is it possible that this may be a starting point or place holder for a larger project?  Or does the shelf serve other tasks.

So to answer your question...maybe?

its going to be a glorified shelf and shifter box.
this is the seat I haz meow:

Im going to put a center console type box to the right to house the shifter and be storage for games. Im going to build a shelf that the front part of the rig slides into, that will hold the TV or 3 monitor set up. Should also double as a shelf for the game systems; but I havent worked out all the deets. Idea is , a smaller, shittier version of this : http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,138146.0.html

Considering we've had projects based on cleaning up workspace areas, I think you're quite safe....

I always  feel like a heel when I mention a different site, but thewayiplay.com has a lot of racing pits of varying  levels of complexity.  You might find exactly what you intended already completed.  Or see a sign of something to avoid.

I had an idea years back to try to integrate the consoles into a dash.  Ps2, dreamcast all that.

This.

Plus I'm always curious what other projects you guys are working on. We can't build cabinets all the time.

How well would you say that center bar holds up?  Is there a rating for the downward pressure or anything technical available?

Any room for those rumble shaking speakers in the seat?  How far away from the wheel does the screen end up being?  Be sure to take a picture of your current set up.  It would be neat to see it progress over time.

I await the next iteration of Malenko Motorsports!

there is a bit of flex on the wheel if you push down really hard, but even during HEAVY force feedback the wheel doesn't move around that much.  Other seats have the center bar between the legs, which sucks. The whole reason I went for this seat was to NOT have the center bar between my legs, the bar there makes heel/toe shifting unpossible.

current pic? well, my avatar is my dog sitting in my chair when it was up in my office.
He *loves* sitting in my chair.  Yes, he's wearing a "marking diaper" notice the spotbot rug cleaner when he marks, it goes on (so, everyday)

If I remember, when I get home I'll take a new pic. This is where the seat currently is, downstairs in my living room, next to the Broad Street Bullies Cab:

you can see the PC with PS3 on top, xbox 360 is over on the bigger TV for meow. I have an extra power cord and HDMI wire to move it back and forth with ease.

yes, I sit in the seat and play dreamcast games too

Fun game room!  Can a person play Broad Street and sit in the racer?

Also are there games you play on the DC that you can't play on the emulator?

thats not my gameroom, its just the limit of whats allowed in the living room :)  My arcade is downstairs.

In terms of the dreamcast, the best way I can put it is "Emulation is amazing but when I can play the real thing, I prefer the real thing". Most of my dreamcast titles are legit too, not CDRs. I still have my Sega Saturn, Super NES, etc hooked up in my office.

  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
In my opinion, while that definitely looks functional and cool, and is definitely a "project", a "cabinet" IMO needs to be encased in wood and resemble what you would see in an arcade. Cool setup though! Would like one of those in my house, given I do not have the space for a racing cabinet.

@mkmk4

Is it really that much of a departure when compared to the likes of STUN Runner, wave runner, or that Harlet Harley Davidson game?

If the monitors were thinner sooner, we would have seen arcade games take advantage of space.  Surely, the formula for arcade operators success was "amount of quaternary  quarters per square foot per minute" Rather than "Square  foot of wood per machine."

The upright version of crazy taxi comes to mind as example a zebra of a different stripe here; but it's still a zebra.

Does Malenko Motorsport look like a coin op machine?  No.  Primarily, because there is no coin door or excessive housing for a CRT.

This was actually my replacement for this:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,115363.msg1222493.html  (Checkered Past)

This project is probably going to be Checkered Past II (powered by Malenko Motorsports :p )
