I do still agree though.

But only the top retainer is a separate piece. The lower retainer is speaker grille and you'd see the holes in the mesh if it were painted white.  I think the black looks fine on the marquee.

Decided to change up the buttons a bit. I had some extra black buttons and to offset all the 'white', I changed out the button shells to black. Thinking about changing the joystick dust washers out to black as well, or the whole joystick assemblies to black because as nice as the white sticks look, they will get very dirty quite easily. What do you guys think?

I also installed new locks and the bezel 'instruction card.' I'm going to do a full move set bezel like I did with all my other MK cabs, but I can't design or get started on it until the game comes out and I have access to all the move lists for all the characters. I need to include all possible characters including the DLC ones, so I won't be able to get one done for a while. Until then, the bezel instruction card will have to do.

I think you need to make the buttons the standard MK colors. Black or Red sticks with black washers. Probably too late to change now, but make the lightning behind "MKX" on the marquee and front art Blue.
Reprint the nether realm logo in color and slip it on top under the plexi :)

While I like the white, I do agree it's going to get grungy looking over time.  Plus its new game and your going to play it alot.  I would move to the standard button colors or all black or black button with white base.

Get rid of the white j-stick.  The look you have now is more like a car that would sit in garage and not drive, it really clean, but its not color schemed for massive amounts of dirt, sweat, oil etc from players.

Regardless.....its a sweet machine man.

Thanks.

I may end up scrapping the entire layout anyway because I found out that L2 is going to be needed to play the game and I don't know if it can be compensated for by pressing combinations of other buttons like in MK9. If not, then I'll have to add that button to the panel, when means I'll have to do a different design. I'll probably change the sticks out to black at that time, but I like the white buttons with the black shells.

So I wasn't pleased with the quality of the print on the custom Instruction Card, so today I got it professionally printed on high-quality glossy photo paper. Looks MUCH better. Just wanted to share.

Now, you'll also notice that the joysticks have been changed out to black. The control panel will be an ever-evolving process until the game comes out because I don't know exactly how it's going to end up needing to be. As good as the white sticks looked, there was just no way they wouldn't get filthy from use and I don't want to have to constantly clean them. I am sure you all understand what I mean.

Here are some pics of the new sticks and the new Instruction Card...

The cabinet turned out great.  I did a similar build but ended up selling it.  It was a PS3 based system but the viewing angles of the LCD varied too much from person to person.  You had to be at just the right angle and height or the experience was less than optimal.  I also had problems with heat, ventilation, and noise.  After any amount of time gaming, the system fan would kick in like a jet and just distracted from it being an arcade machine.  I just gave up on trying to modernize the arcade experience.  If i were to do another, I would do a pedestal with a wall mounted screen.  This would allow the PS3/4 to be mounted on a shelf below the screen to allow better ventilation.  Kuddos for the hard work, it just didn't work out for me.   Also, awesome collection of MK cabinets.

Thanks for the kind words. I've had no issues with the other custom cabs I've done because I keep the back door off and I have super quiet  fans blowing on the PS3s. As for the display issues, the MK9, Injustice and Street Fighter cabs using CRTs. No issues there. The MKX uses a 100% viewing angle LED so no matter what angle you view it from, it looks great.

So I can't make a bezel with all the characters and their move sets until the game is released and the moves, etc are made known, so until then, I threw this together real quick. It includes the original seizure label as well as the custom instruction card. Nothing too fancy. Just something to add a little detail to the bare bezel. Thoughts from those that are interested?

This cab looks great. I want to do something similar but my build skills are nonexistent. So right now I have a ps4 and 2 sticks. I would love to have a cab encapsulate my current setup to give me the arcade feel.

Man. Long night. I've been working on comping up with a layout/design for the MKX LED monitor bezel that I can use to feature all the characters from the game. Normally, it wouldn't be an issue with a CRT monitor because I'd have nearly 3 inches on each side for space. With the LED monitor, I only have about half an inch on each side, resulting in ALL the characters needing to be on the top and bottom parts of the bezel.

Since I don't have access to MKX character renders and full move sets, I used all the characters/move sets from MK9. It appears that everything should fit nicely. I even had a little room to put a 'key' stating what all the abbreviations stand for (J = Jump, etc). So check out the pictures and let me know what you think. Just imagine all the characters and whatnot as MKX characters....

I'd maybe change the boxes around the characters to white instead of the red. But everything looks damn good sir.

Are you gonna stream some footage of you playing on the cab when the game drops?

Don't worry. The boxes will be white for MKX. Thanks!

Of course. ;)

So based on how good the 27" LED monitor looks in the MKX cabinet, I decided today to go buy two more of the same make/model and install them in the MK9 and Injustice machines. All three of my custom Netherrealm machines now have a gorgeous 27" LED monitor.

I originally went with CRTs in the MK9 and Injustice because I wanted the original arcade feel while playing the games, and they provided just that, but I was doing an "injustice" to them by not using a proper widescreen display. I also had to completely redo the full character move set bezel art for both games because of the bezel size changing so drastically.

So that all being said, here are some pics. Just wanted to share. Thanks!

-Mike

NICE = your norm MK3FAN. :applaud:  :notworthy:

I still need one of those Midway CP boxes, cannot find one locally and been looking for months.

I need something similar to your Injustice cp box but with 8 straight inline buttons (or maybe a 6+2 below in order to have room for trackball).

Do you have the dimensions or plans to build from scratch by chance (are you willing to build+ship or know somebody that can?).

My Midway cab is sitting here with a Tankstick, which is functional but oh so ugly.   :dunno

Ugh not the tankstick!  Nice job up there MK3FAN. Looks great.  Those 16:9 LCDs look a little out of place to me but it seems like they display the game a little better. Nice work.

Hey DGP I just picked up a MK 1 cabinet for the sole intention of getting a template made for my KI 3 cabinet.  PM me and we can talk about dimensions and maybe even a build/ship scenario.

Because to build a beefy enough computer to run the game properly would have cost just as much, if not more than just using a PS4. Plus, I think the online community will be bigger with the PS4, but I could be wrong.

scoodidabop,

If you come up with anything let me know, I finally had a local guy PM me that he has empty midway cp boxes so I am going to see what he has.

Hey MK3FAN,

Obviously controllers can be modified for pc but I have yet to read confirmation that MKX has keyboard emulation friendly control mapping, I sure hope it does since I have it pre-ordered and want it on my cab (let's hope it's not like Injustice).

Are you ---smurfing--- kidding me? It's like they want to fail. This was one of those games that was MEANT to be played using an I-PAC or something similar.

Total morons. I hope it sells poorly and they just stop bothering. Let's get real: this game had no chance of being as good as MK2 anyway. 9 sequels? Give me a break.

Ok since the patch they released at around 7pm PT I am able to get my tankstick working during gameplay for player 1 & 2 but no menu control (other than up/down).

I have to have a KB linked through the tankstick PS2 connection in order to operate the menu system, if I use a USB KB everything falls apart.

Progress...

Hopefully someone on here will come up with a patch like they did on SF4. I gave up on MK9 using Ipac because now matter how I mapped buttons for gameplay, menus always wanted alternate buttons I didn't have. Could run key2joy but that messed up all the other games that were config'd perfectly.
I went on Can you run it, and the CPU specs for this game are pretty high anyway. I can run every other PC game on my cab no problems but don't even meet minimum for CPU on this game. This PC port seems poorly optimised all around, but I expected as much after MK9.

Big ups to MK3FAN  :applaud:
Your custom MKX and MK kollektion of cabs is showing up all over the place in a google search of MKX PC. Im sure your stellar work will inspire others to join the arcade community.

MK9 has a workaround that works great as it makes the pc think the KB emulation is an Xbox controller, the info is on the X-Arcade site and many have confirmed it works with their IPAC setups. ;)

I tried that same 'fix' right away with MK X but no luck (it does not work on Injustice either).

I run MK X great but my multi-cade pc is fairly stout compared to many (certainly not all). I run a liquid cooled quad core at 4 ghz, with an OC'd Radeon 7850 (faster than stock 7870) and 8gb ddr3.
MK X heats the system up pretty good running at max settings other than no motion blur (which I do not like anyway).

MK X currently has problems on all platforms but the pc version has the most issues at the moment. I can't complain too much as I paid less than 1/2 but it's going to be the last game that I pre-order for a while.

* I think MK3FAN was wise to do his MK X build using a PS4, mostly just online issues with that version.

So, as usual, everyone's full of crap. I just tried it, and it works fine with keyboard controls. NO idea what you're talking about.
