a delete option
« on: March 20, 2015, 11:13:43 pm »
We can modify our own posts but there is no Delete option (That I can find anyways). It would be nice If I got the answers that I need that I could delete the post afterwards if I so choose. I just dont like have 3 questions up on 3 different posts because theres only so much you can fit in a subject line. I notice some other forums on the web do have this option....

I fell delete is a bad idea.  If you have a question, odds are someone else has that question.  If you delete your post, that solution is gone.

How about a delete option that must be reviewed by the mod before it actually deletes?
That way maybe a lot of useless (albeit entertaining), could be deleted if the poster feels it needs to be.

This guy is a thinker. Why bother even posting here if you're gonna delete all your questions after you get answers? Place would be like a joke book with only the punchlines visible.

good day.

good day.

I just mean for something that wouldn't really help anybody else or I post something and then decide that's not what I wanted to do or did it in error. Twice now I've had to cleat a post out then ask for it to be deleted.. Also if I'm selling something and I want to do a fresh repost without having 50 comments on it already.

And I don't get your punchline?? There's nothing visible after you delete the main post. Everything is gone

I like day old mans idea, to be reviewed by moderator, that would be better than nothing

Good day to you....

Well, you never know what might be useful to somebody else. Even very unique specific issues get repeated now and again.

And I don't get your punchline?? There's nothing visible after you delete the main post. Everything is gone

So you want to be able to delete other people's posts as well?  As a person who routinely helps out on questions I definitely would not appreciate my posts getting deleted because the OP nuked the thread. Especially if I am looking to find an answer for someone, do real world research, then come back and am pulling out my hair because I can't find the thread. If you notice every time a mod removes a thread, even they leave a notice in it's place that it was pulled, so we know what happened to it.

OK fair enough, maybe I'm going about this the wrong way. I can see reasons for an author not to be able to delete his own posts or in its entirety either, but we should be able to at least modify the Original subject line without having to create a new post then pending moderator approval. If I'm selling something for $100 and everyone's seen the post, generally they are probably not going to read it again, but I should be able to put a lower price in the subject line to attract attention to it again..

Pretty sure if you modify your first post in a thread you can change the subject.

Its the internet, just accept that whatever you post will forever be. And this whole 'I can modify my posts' thing should also be disallowed or restricted. Really hate it when I am reading a thread, and someone nuked all his/her posts by modifying them all to a dot. Modify should just allow you to add stuff. Removing could then be done by applying strikethrough.

Modified should be used to fix posts, not remove them. You shouldn't punish the masses because a select few used the function improperly.  It sucks when they do, but you just have to deal with it.

I said it before and I will say it again.  If you post something on the internet, just pretend you just submitted it to a newspaper or the Globe.  You might get an editorial, but not a retraction.
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

I've found missing images to be more of an issue than deleted posts. I can't stand it when the images from a thread are gone because they were hosted elsewhere.

Agreed. Not to mention, a lot of project pictures I can't see because my work filters out the photo hosting website.
