Megatouch EVO Key??
« on: March 19, 2015, 07:47:02 pm »
Ok I had purchased this machine sight unseen upon looking at it when I got it home.... I believe its missing a key. There is a key on the on-screen display board that reads "SA3542-01" there is no key in the I/O Board.

When I power it on it wont let me go into the bios...as if the keyboard isnt connected...I have gotten to the bios setup but it locks up and will not let me do anything else.

Do you suppose the key thats missing is the culprit?

FORCE 2008
Version: V24.04
Security Key: SA3542-XX // SA3543-XX

FORCE 2008.5
Version: V25.00
Security Key: SA3542-XX // SA3543-XX

if so anyone have the SA3543-01 Key?

Theres a key holder on the IOboard, and also a key holder on the LCD adjustment board. The key could be on either one. If its not and it reads SA3542-01 in the operator setup menu then i am intrigued. >:D

What do you mean "one key"? im going to need pics if you want me to help. As far as bios, its pretty easy to get into the bios with a ps2 keyboard and pressing the "DEL" key.

you say there is 2 key holders....only one is filled...as far as the bios when I hit the "delete" key to enter setup it will not go anywhere...it acts like its locked up...wont go past P.O.S.T

Any way I'll get some pics for you tomorrow.

For once in my life im agreeing with ed12.

What is the problem? Theres only supposed to be one key. If the game boots what does it matter if you cant get into bios. I am not understanding the issue. At first i thought you were trying to say there was no key and the game still boots. But i am really not sure what your problem is.

I have yet to decrypt your language ed12.

This guy got past my n00b radar with 120+ posts. Im still trying to figure out if he has an actual problem or if he just wants to get into the bios for some odd reason.

If i let the thing sit it never gets past the screen above!!

If I hit tab with the keyboard attached I may get the image above but only out of chance and im hitting that TAB button like mad...Still if I get the screen above it will hang there forever like something is making it lock up..

Now does it register?

So maybe its nothing to do with a "key"....I have no idea how the system works...maybe its the motherboard thats junk but any help would be appreciated.

that is a normal load screen
if it dose not move on from there?
then it is not loading the game.
I can see in your second shot that it is reporting the hard drive
but that is where the problem lay's
:key: issuie's do not come up until the game has fully loaded

Thanks for the reply....just out of trying to diag this thing I had unplugged everything from it, hooked an external monitor and the mobo will act the same way...locks up... which tells me the Motherboard must have something wrong with it...I even tried different memory and replacing the cmos battery...which did not help.

do you agree? can I use a different motherboard or am I stuck finding an exact replacement?

mike or shawn can better answer that
but for the sake of argument
u could hook a windows hard drive to the mother board
and see what happens
the mother board hanging like that is normal
once it comes out of the bios routine
it starts into the game sub routine >that exact screen<
in the merit thread u will see where I posted that exact screen
plus shawn/mike/my-self going into it

Force software only works with the motherboard you have. There is no known alternate motherboard that i am aware of.

It's not unusual for Force motherboards to suffer capacitor failure, which could lead to any number of issues.

I'm lucky to get to that second screen maybe 1 out of 20 tries...so I'm thinking I have a motherboard issue.
ill try what you suggested ed12

As M.Lanza mentioned, its possible bad capacitors, or bad voltage regulators, even your power supply could cause a motherboard to not pass post. Even the bios chip could be corrupt aswell.

open up the machine and snap a pic of the mainboard as best you can. lots of light not a flash. we should be able to see if anything is obviously wrong right off the bat.

if it's getting past the detecting of the hard drives, it's almost home free.

maybe a BIOS configuration is corrupt. boot it up and press DEL to get into the bios settings. do a "load failsafe" and then a "load optimized" defaults. then save and exit.

That's the thing...when I hit DEL it hangs up....even if I don't hit any keys. It hangs......

I've got the motherboard separated from the rest of the machine and it still hangs so I know it's gota be the motherboard...right...otherwise I should be able to hit DEL and get into the bios to reset to defaults...but it locks up before I get there.

I'll take a pic of the motherboard and post tonight.

Thanks

it looks good. i'm not seeing anything obviously wrong with it. It appears to have been re-capped. (original caps were green) What is the brand and wattage of the power supply in the machine? i'm wondering if it's still original and starting to flake out.

otherwise...

the other thing you can try is resetting the CMOS and see if it boots up properly. Remove the battery and find the CMOS clear jumper and move it from it's current position to the other pin. (it's near the battery holder)

it should complain about invalid or corrupted CMOS settings and get you to press F1 to enter the setup. if you get in, your golden. if not, you may have a corrupt firmware in the CMOS.

I would search out other avenues first (power supply regulator etc) before suspecting the CMOS but you never know.

The mobo does look fine. Ive seen worse still work fine. I would start looking at the ram. Also, if you have a spare hard drive and some sort of bootable disc like linux or whatever, see if you can get the linux live cd to boot and install on the spare hard drive. That will rule out the mobo completely if it boots and installs.

You could also try removing the Bridge Connector that is shown in the top right of the picture, thats what forces the motherboard to auto-power-on but i have had problems with a couple of boards that required that to be removed (when left on the software reported a hardware errror and kept resetting) and you can then test the board by bridging the 2 points with a jumper or you can just use a screwdriver to connect them for a second when testing

yes, that power supply is definitely newer. the originals where enhance brand and where crap to begin with. after derating due to the temps inside the cab, they only output like 85 watts or something like that. that one should be loads better than the original, but probably not as good as some of the other high quality ones. (never heard of replacepower.com)

everything looks great there though. Maybe just power it up and keep pressing delete over and over to try and get into the bios, you may just be missing the window to get in (it's pretty short). at the least it should throw a keyboard error.  :P

ok I've cleared CMOS and now get a black screen when I hit "Del" to enter setup....I'm thinking the BIOS is corrupt...anyone know where I could get a copy of the BIOS to rewrite?

It's been a while since I've done a BIOS Flash.

Will the factory ECS BIOS flash work?

Yes factory ECS bios will work, you will just loose the FORCE bios logo. Where are you located? I have dumped the bios from a working force board years ago. Its in the format of my bios programmer so it most likely wont work with any dos software bios flasher.

the legit bios should work just fine. it's just a custom boot with the force logo on it.

i have some trash boards hanging around, I could pull a bios chip and mail it to you for the price of whatever postage it costs to get from canada to you.

then you'd just have to pry out the old one and pop in the replacement.

:dunno see what you can manage with a BIOS update or send me a PM and we can work out getting you an IC.
