[SOLVED] Mala No Longer Launches Emulators
« on: March 08, 2015, 03:37:53 am »
I set up Mala on a Windows 7 PC for a friend, running MAME and several console emulators. Everything was working great until after about a week, my friend discovered he could no longer launch any of the console emulator games from Mala.

MAME games still launch fine, and all of the console roms launch fine if I run the emulators outside of Mala. But when we navigate to a game list for one of the consoles in Mala and hit the button to launch the game, nothing happens. It doesn't matter if I'm using a keyboard or a gamepad.

I've checked and rechecked the controller settings and I've tried it with both the default layout and Pixel Assault with the same results.

At this point, I'm not sure what else to try and I'm kind of pulling my hair out, so I humbly request any help you folks can offer. Thanks in advance!

Did you check to make sure the consoles have the correct commands sent to them from within mala?

Thanks for your reply. Where in the configurations would I check that?

In mala, open the options menu by right clicking. The tab called other emu config is what you want.

Ah, yes. Under the Basics tab, the Executable and Rom path are both correct.

Under the Execution tab, Pre commands and Post commands are both blank and Command line has "%path%\rom%.%ext%"

Does anything seem amiss here?

That code likely works for many emulators, but each one may be different. I suggest refreshing each emulators game list to make sure the roms are there and then go through the mala instructions one step at a time.

Thanks for taking the time to help me with this.

I actually just fixed it by accident. If anyone happens to run into this problem, you need to open the Main Menu in Mala, not the options/config. On my setup I press 2 on the keyboard to open it. From there select Game List and set Browse to No.

Hope this helps someone else someday.
