Machine Idea--- Let me know what you think
« on: January 19, 2015, 02:10:35 am »
So, there is an Indy game called Super Smash Bros: Crusade (http://www.indiedb.com/games/super-smash-bros-crusade). It is basically a more retro version of melee. I thought that it would make a superb arcade game, so I made a cp. My PS skills are ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, so bear with me, but this is what I came up with (
). Imagine that panel on one of the older Nintendo Vs. Cabinets (example: http://davesgameroom.com/Images/Nintendo_VS.jpg) with the screens running as dual monitors for smash! I have been playing melee at least once a week or so for about 10 years now, so this thrills me. If you have any suggestions or thoughts, please do tell.

Thanks,

Carter

Looks neat.  How do you like the gameplay?  Does it compare to melee?

Will DL this afternoon.

It's similar. It has a few slight differences with the way that things feel, but I like them. Oh, and I also made a marquee! (

I actually have this on my cab. The only annoyance in having to hit f4 ( or whatever) for full screen.

Yeah. That is true. It would require an extra button soldered to the f4 key for that if I want it to be keyboard-independent. Is the game feasible with arcade controls or is this a bad idea?

It's good with a 6 button layout. But player 1 button 1 on my cab registers the enter key. And that key won't map to an action key in game so player one loses a button on my cab. I use player 2. I tried writing an auto hot key for the f4 thing but couldn't figure it out considering the loading before pressing the key.
But I'm sure someone here could figure it out.

It's too early to be drinking, Eric.

I like the simplicity of the marquee, but it needs just a little more oomph. Props to you for not flooding it with every SINGLE character trying to look like a bad ass. It's on the right track.

Make an autohotkey script to simulate an f4 key press.

That's better.  A great big oomph.

I haven't been  able to even all day.  I just hadn't had enough coffee at that point.

You flatter me  ;D

Anyhow, here's a potential side art design... I made sure to add enough "oomph" to the outer glow and inner shadow. Inner shadows are the best things in the universe if you are really bad at Photoshopping and the picture is dark. The shadow kind of evens things out.
