Ok I understand the confusion now..... this guy just didn't explain things properly.  You need the bios mod for booting..... if you just solder an IDE cable you'll need the gdrom for the oscillator (used for timing) BUT.... why would you kill yourself...... just order what I intended to

https://world.taobao.com/item/527585564900.htm?fromSite=main&spm=a312a.7700824.w4004-717747455.4.6a6c7371B66Kst
https://world.taobao.com/item/45784299888.htm?fromSite=main&spm=a312a.7700824.w4004-717747455.8.6a6c7371B66Kst

You just plug it in and the oscillator is onboard.  You can even retain the gd-rom via pass-through with the more expensive version.

They also sell pre-flashed bios afaict.

Did you ever order one? If so How did it work out? Should I add it to the list?

???

Added the N64 option and a Notable bit section with some limited important info. including a note on ever drives, that is helpful with out having to list all mottles of the same system individually.

I just got my glasses a couple of weeks ago, so no, I haven't ordered it yet.  If I'm gonna do it this year I'll probably order soon though.

The PSIO preorder email invites are starting to be sent out. It also looks like they are working on a Dream cast SD card product.

I may pull the trigger on the PSIO. Thoughts?

I received an email in mid-September to preorder one. I took the plunge. Unfortunately, it sounds like they might not actually ship any for a couple more months. They were still waiting on some parts to be produced and said it would take 3-4 months from that time. Not sure how that would impact folks who preorder one now. Hopefully they would be able to get a unit from the same batch as I am...

The PSIO would be amazing if I could run it on my PSOne. I got rid of my original grey PSX swiftly after the PSOne was released because it was smaller, better aesthetics and the CD drive didn't sound like it was sawing through a 2x4.

Unfortunately the lack of a parallel port on the PSOne makes this impossible. Though I am hoping one day someone builds a CD Drive replacement for that unit, like the ones we see with Sega Saturn and Dreamcast.

You can get an original PS for like $25. The PS2's, the Best selling consul ever, native backward compatibility keeps the original cheep.

Honestly the PS2 backwards compatibly for the psx is so good that my psx is mainly for decoration at this point.  Why do a costly sd upgrade to the psx when you can do an sd, hdd or network mod to the ps2 and run the same games?  Next pick-n-pay is Dec. 1 and I've found a retro console at each one so far.  I'm really excited to see if I can find something else.  If not I might get a ps3, just for the lightgun games.

The PS2 can only natively run PS1 games via the disk drive. You can only run PS1 games with the HD mod in emulate. It is reasonable to go ether way, but if you want a future proof way to play PS1 games on original hardware, then the PSIO is the only option for now.

So I got a Super Everdrive China ver the other day.  Seems to work great just like all the other clones.  The shell is kind of ratty and I'll probably replace it with a proper NA snes shell but other than that I don't have many complaints.  Paid 50 bucks for it with sd card included.  The only bad thing is a dsp isn't installed.  Looking at the game list I might not even bother as pilot wings and Mario kart are the only dsp 1 titles worth mentioning.  If anyone wants me to try something let me know.
Try super mario world. Get to the first boss. Not sure if it was the rom or what but most of the bosses had graphical glitches, for example on boss 1 the platform was invisible. And when i fought bowser he was invisible. Still beat him blind though.

Hmm.... the bosses use some mode 7, but that should be supported.  I'll test it when I have a chance.

So it turns out my issues werent with the everdrive. My snes doesnt support mode 7. I have a failed chip i guess. So the only options are to get a new snes or get a broken snes and swap the chips that has like a million pins.

I wood check all the caps. It is possible the chip woks fine, but the problem is caused by a cap that didn't age well.

Forgot all about this thread

So I brought a Everdrive for the N64, Mega Drive, NES and I got the SD2SNES for the SNES.

All are excellent and very happy with all.

I also HDD mod’d my PS2 over xmas with a 1TB HDD.

Just need to find something for the DC next.
Ive read about the GDEMU which seems to be a popular but hard to get hold of choice.

Anyone recomend anything else?

There's the USB-GDROM linked on the first page of this thread. It seems like it a) is way more available than GDEMU and b) supports more file formats. I plan on picking one up as soon as the funds allow. I've got the earliest version of the DC which reads CD-Rs, so it's not urgent. Although based off the sound the disk drive makes, not sure how long it will keep functioning.  :(

I've got the USB-GDROM by mnemo. I think they're a bit easier to obtain than the GDEMU. They're both pretty comparable in features, just one takes USB Drives and the other takes SD Cards.  I personally rather a USB Drive because I put all the games on a 500GB SATA Hard drive and run a USB-to-SATA connector to attach it to the USB-GDROM.  Works well for me, no complaints.

Yup, this stuff is never cheap.  Plus add the cost of a PC Engine, if you don't have one...that's a $400-500 investment.  :o
Though, compare that to getting a TurboDuo or the regular PC Engine + CD drive combo, and a bunch of CD games you'll pay way passed that mark.

Anyway, this thread is about identifying the options available. Not really a discussion of price since everyone's value measurement varies.

There is some controversy regarding unauthorized clones of certain products. Lets try to avoid posting about clones where the original creator does not approve. They did do all the R&D to bring the product to market.

Yup.

The thing is anything that works well the chinese will copy regardless of how many layers of protection you put in place.

The fact is the dont give a ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- and have the means to do it.

I really feel for the bloke but hes going about it the wrong way really.

If anything he needs to step up production a little and carry on.
People who are genuinely interested will buy the original.
Those who are not would never of brought it to start with and will buy the knock offs.

As the old saying goes buy cheap buy twice.

There have been clones of Krikzz ED products out there forever and he still seems to be doing well. Personally I want the piece of mind that comes with having an authentic device that can accept firmware updates and that will be backed by the seller. Therefore, I wouldn't buy a clone regardless of who made it. I don't think GDEMU has much to worry about with regards to sales of his products. I do agree that making them more accessible would help that cause. I think a lot of folks have looked for alternatives because his products have been so damn hard to get.  :(

Well the GDEMU guy doesn't have to worry about his business getting hurt by these cloners, he does that himself by not taking pre-orders.

Must admit I dont get the guys logic on not taking orders and making a list.

He says people moan about the time and if he did do it people would want further discounts?

I get some people wouldnt want to wait well thats fine you just take them off the list if they request everyone else just form a orderly que and wait your turn be it a week or 3 months.

Nobody can blame him for not going to the expense of mass production but trying to catch one of his open windows is hard work.

Oh damn. That's what everyone has been waiting for. I'm getting one next black friday for sure now.

And the same guy who worked on the SuperFX support is now working on SA-1. So hopefully soon we'll be able to play Super Mario RPG, Kirby Super Star, and Jikkyō Oshaberi Parodius (one of the best in the Parodius series).
