See I thought it was just dsp 1.  I haven't been keeping up though so I might be wrong on that.

Eh I've got plenty of those.  I was trying to find a non-destructive solution.  I see them on ebay and aliexpress, but I think they are gutting carts.

I was doing some light reading and fell down the NES mods rabbit hole.  Came across the lost sound channel restoration mod. It only works with Japanese versions of games and it is only recommended for people that have SD cart's like the everdrive.

Has anyone here tried this? It's about the simplest mod I have ever seen, just adding one resistor between to large points.

I haven't done it to the toaster, but I did it for my top-loader. For the top loader, there is additional soldering to do to the Powerpak or famicom-to-NES adapter. I followed this:
http://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php?t=7880

Works like a charm.

If I had to bet on some one here doing this I would have put my money on you.
What value reciter did you use?

I ordered a toster last summer and am planing some mods for my trip home next summer. I'll add this to the list.

The resistor values are in that thread I linked.

Are you planning to put a NESRGB in your top loader? Because the mod is slightly different when it involves that board since the NESRGB has its own amplified audio (also outlined in that thread on the 3rd page).

I seen that he used a 1.2 kOhm, but I also read that people have used a range that yield different results in terms of value.
Quote
Experimentation suggest using a resistor ranging from 24k up to 56k.  Pick a range in the middle and test the sound. The sounds with PowerPaks, Everdrives vs Real Famicom carts can vary.
here

I bought a front loader this past summer to try out some modding, like disabling lock out, and because I wanted a NES that was the same model as the one I had as a kid. I haven't decided to pull the trigger on doing a RGB mod  on this one yet. If I do, I think I would like to do the one with the N64/SNES port on the back. Will see, I just had a second kid and time and money are being more and more monopolized by family.

Yeah that's why I ask, because the resistor value is different from that regular hack. I believe mine is a 22k for my NESRGB hack.

But here's a little tip posted on that thread I linked:
Quote
Tip: By design the expansion audio volume varied from game to game since they were mixed inside the cartridge and not the console, so there is no fixed parameter on the console for the volume levels for expanded audio games. The resistor value you put on your console (47K in this case) might be a little low or high depending on the rom you load.

That's a good thing to note.

I wonder if including a pot resistor may help, like in the Mono Mixing stereo mod. In the thread you posed to they point out that the lost sound can only be picked up from mono. I wonder if the mixing mod would give some more flexibility?

Any way as of now I'm definitely going to swop out the 72 pin connecter, disable the lock out chip, and add a resister to restor lost sound. I'm thinking about RGB and Mono mixing stereo.

I've seen a couple of people that have just ran the line out of their famicom adapter and ran it to the right stereo cable.  Apparently the NES does absolutely nothing to the extra sound... you are just pumping it into the sound that is already on the left channel.

If you have a 21pin Saturn the SD drive sails are open. They go quick so don't put off ordering if you want one.

He seems to be surprised that the demand only ever seems to go up. If you have a Saturn and want it to keep working for much longer there kind of a must.

Still a little too pricey for me.  Now that my eyes are sorta/kinda back to normal I should try that ide hack for no other reason than to report back on how it works.

GDEMU orders will open this Saturday.

https://gdemu.wordpress.com/2017/03/06/the-light-before-we-land/

I'm debating between the GDEMU and the USB-GDROM for the Dreamcast. According to the USB-GDROM site, it has quite a bit more going on for it than GDEMU does. Just wondering if anyone has either of these devices and might be able to provide some feedback...

They're pretty similar, but the USB GDROM has the advantage of supporting larger cheaper and faster storage. USB thumb drives are cheaper and more obtainable than SD Cards.

Menu's between the two are pretty much the same.

The GDEMU supports two additional image formats, CCD+IMG+SUB and MDS+MDF while the USB GDROM only supports GDI, ISO, and cdi.

The USB GDROM supports long file names while the GDEMU doesn't.

I personally opted for the USB GDROM for the USB storage support, and store practically the entire library on a 256gb thumb drive. The thumb drive cost me $60 on amazon.

edit: here's a funny little comparison image between the two.

Thanks Opt. This is excellent information.

I think I will go ahead and order the USB-GDROM device. It seems like the GDEMU is very difficult to get ahold of and will probably be sold out by the time I could even try to order one anyway....

I finally added the handhelds in the first post. I know I'm missing some options so feel free to let me know.

Rhea owners:

The Rhea GUI/menu is finally out: http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/official-rhea-discussion.57377/page-7#post-847473

vertions 2.0 is now out. RMENU_v0.2

I found another good list to add to the first post.

http://atariage.com/forums/topic/127752-flashcart-and-multicart-list-all-systems/

Nice list, added. I wonder if any of these other list used us in there research? That would be cool.

So I got a Super Everdrive China ver the other day.  Seems to work great just like all the other clones.  The shell is kind of ratty and I'll probably replace it with a proper NA snes shell but other than that I don't have many complaints.  Paid 50 bucks for it with sd card included.  The only bad thing is a dsp isn't installed.  Looking at the game list I might not even bother as pilot wings and Mario kart are the only dsp 1 titles worth mentioning.  If anyone wants me to try something let me know.

I got it on amazon, but apparently they are out again.  It took nearly two months to arrive and there were only 8 left when I ordered.  I've seen it come and go over the course of the past year or so.  So it's possible that they'll get more in later.

Try super mario world. Get to the first boss. Not sure if it was the rom or what but most of the bosses had graphical glitches, for example on boss 1 the platform was invisible. And when i fought bowser he was invisible. Still beat him blind though.

Is this the full release? I've been on the beta version of this and it kicks ass. Not only is it graphically updated, but the loading options are great now.

Ever since Assember forums went down I've been finding it hard to get news on these developments.

Heh that's getting pretty obscure.  I could probably buy what few NGPC games are worth playing cheaper than that.  But hey, I'm sure some people like that junky little handheld more than me.

Sorry to take so long to get back to you on this... I've been busy.  Fired up super Mario world, beat iggy and I didn't notice any graphical glitches.  In the "about" screen the manufacturer is listed as Jack DIY with v 12 os and v 2 firmware if that helps with the identification.

This was one of the roms included with the sd card, so I suppose they could have modified it.   If you can't find a working version let me know.

I have decided to try the HD mod on my PS2. You need a network adapter to install a HD and the SONEY ones were all  IDE. You can mess around with IDE to SATA adapters but results will very. I ordered a GameStar SATA network adapter. use the same one in his build.

I still need to look into SSD vs HD priseing. Then there is making a list of games. Most of the games I'll be adding will be PS1, this is way cheeper then the PSIO.
[Edit: despite the fact the PS2 natively supports PS1 games via dick, only emulation is supported of the HDD]

Could use some sagestins on PS2 titles that I should consider. Back in the PS2 day I mostly played RPG's but now would like some pick up and play with friends options.

I'll report back on my results.

Does anyone know if there are any mods to replace the CD Rom on the Konami M2 arcade pcb?

Some bug fixes especially for MSU audio support timing.

Was looking at the very cool DARKSOFT CPS2 Multi Kit and while it's not in my price range until I go back to work, was thinking about add Arcade multi card/game adapters to the list.

Obviously we can't post links to items that come with rom's, like any or the NEOGEO multi carts or the Multipac but I think knowledge of their existence is okay.

Boot leg system should still be persona non grata as this is a list for preservation.

Should we add these to the list?

I vote not. There are so many multi boards and variants out there that it'll muddle up the console list.
Neo geo is different as the same multicarts have AES versions planned.

If we open that floodgate then we'd have to do it for the other consoles and there are 20-30 new multicarts for the nes every season.  Thorwing it in another thread might be an idea though.
