Here is a new one. it's an sd card disc drive replacement for laser disc games such as dragons lair.

Man that is one hell of a round-about way to use dexter on a multi-board.  I didn't realize that Matt and Co. were making it to where it's really only meant for one game.

that's a steep price tag though. but could be worth it if I were to have a dragons lair or something.

Dragon's Lair / Laserdisc fans are odd ducks.    I love the games, but not beyond the point to where one should love any arcade machine.  For whatever reason, repro and NOS parts for Don Bluth cabs cost 300-400 where they would be 100 dollars or less on any other cabinet.... I'm talking basic stuff like side art and control panel overlays ect.  So for DL stuff the price isn't that bad, but those guys will pay anything.

yeah I'm definitely not interested in one but I thought it would go well in this list. besides I have Daphne as well as a sega cd. That's good enough for me to play those games. I can see where the price tag fits. especially for those that want to keep playing long after the laser disc turns to dust.

I'll add it to the list.

How are you liking the Sega CD? It has a lot of crap games and some of the best games are port you could play on other system, but undeniably some gems. I hope some one makes a SD replacement for it eventually.

I'm enjoying it. still waiting for my genesis everdrive to come in the mail. I'm liking the sonic mega mix homebrew. it's a shame there isn't much homebrew on the CD.

Nice.

You may want to pick up the much cooler looking Model 1 Genesis. They also apparently have better all around sound.

Yeah, but then you gotta get that weird tumor-like plastic piece or else it hangs off the side.  I think I was the only person that ever actually called Sega and had that part mailed to me.

might as well throw in the "bit boy"
an sd replacement for the game boy printer.
it allows you to store printed pictures from certain games that have that feature. or pictures from the game boy camera on an sd card.

The FDSemu is rather interesting.  I've always wondered this, but could a FDS work on a NES?  It might be covered up, but the NES does have an expansion port on the bottom.  Obviously an adaptor would probably be needed, but you know what I'm getting at.

I had the same thought. and I am unsure. but if you had the everdrive n8 you wouldn't even need one.

Is the EverDrive-N8 worth the cost? I know I could easily do a PI build for half but I kind of like the idea of using my actual NES. Any one have any testing with one or a NES cart alternative?

Well if you want the entire NES library on one cart then cost doesn't really factor into it.  All the flash carts currently sold are based on the N8 and they all run about the same amount.

there is a new one for the atari lynx. I am pretty excited about this one. he is currently (I think he still is) taking pre orders. it's a very long waiting list. but hopefully in a year or two production will ramp up to where I can just go to a website and buy one.

I broke down and bought a cheep Mega Ever drive from a Chinese auction site. At $35 USD I figured I'll try it out and report back when it arrives.

I had to stop my self from ordering the super ever drive as well. If I like the mega ever Ever drive, over the next year I plan on buying the latest and greatest models from the official site for every system they make one for.

Like pbj I'm always accumulating amazon points... for.... reasons, so I check amazon for vg swag from time to time.  There are a few vendors selling the mega everdrive for around 40 bucks with a 8 gb sdcard.  The ever drive 64 has also popped up for around the same price.  It's very hard to get a cheap n64 flash cart, and again, I believe that also comes with the sd card,  so that's also a deal to look after.

So for around 80 bucks that's master system, genesis, 32x (if you have the adaptor) and n64.  Not too shabby!

I'm thinking of biting the bullet and ordering those two, but it'd pretty much wipe out all of my sweet sweet amazon credit.

I think I'm going to bite the bullet and get the genesis one as I don't have any games to speak of.  The n64.... eh I've got most of the good games already so I'll have to think on that one.

I was also reading this article on how some of the better game gear games have been patched to work on a master system, so a few game gear titles might be playable as well.  I fired my game gear up tonight... man those caps must be hosed... no sound.  :(

I think The game gear is just a potable master system. And the master system games work on a Gen. I would think the GG games just might all work.

Well I looked into it and not quite.  The game gear is *slightly* more powerful than the master system.... it's like in-between that and a genesis.   It IS theoretically possible to patch any gg game to work on master system, but it isn't a walk in the park.

So close, I have a GG Master Gear Converter and two Sega Mega Drives. I assumed the all the games would move up the chain. How many GG games are hack/patched to work?

Didn't notice the Gotek drives getting a mention, useful for those older disk based systems. I have one in my Super Wild Card SNES copier these days (and one in my Amiga 500 but this is a consoles thread) as seen here http://www.mameau.com/gotek-drive-setup-for-super-wild-card/

There is also a pretty sketchy hdd hack available for the Dr. V64 (N64 copier) but its not for the light hearted. http://emuconsoleexploitnews.blogspot.com.au/2010/05/doctor-v64-hddcf-bios-upgrade.html

The PS2 harddrive IDE hack required a PS2 Fat model and PS2 network adapter, works very well. As I recall USB support was added later in USBLoader and OpenPS2Loader but compatibility was never great may have improved these days.

There is also the entire line of Tototek products, I have one for my SMD which works well enough but its an old style flashcart and in this day and age is annoying to use. So I rarely bother http://www.tototek.com/store/index.php

SDLoad exists for the gamecube but requires a SDGekko card

I always thought the sd-based solutions for disc based systems were interesting, but the high cost large sd cards always killed it for me.  I wonder if there is a way to adapt a hard drive to a sd card.... obviously some kind of cable would have to be made but we've all got a million of those micro to standard sized sd adaptors that comes with the cards.

The ones on that site I linked to basically.  Remember though that 90% of the game gear library is just ports of master system games... so just run the master system versions and cut out the middle man.  I think there are only about 100 unique game gear games.

I was looking on ebay/amazon though and man are gg carts cheap.... most are 1-2 dollars.  If I could only find a vendor that would cut me a deal on the shipping to make it worth it.  It's very much like collecting common nes games, quite frustrating.

don't forget that some of these are limited to a standard sd card that's only a couple of gigs. and most are limited to a 32 gig sd card. so for these disc based systems you would need quite a few cards to store say the entire psx library. a hard drive solution would be great.

Man I'm so behind with sega stuff.  I've got a genesis and a dreamcast and that's it.  Mind you those are the two systems that don't suck, but I've got to think that the Saturn had some good games considering it's long life in Japan.

The Saturn is amazing. Guardian heroes is a great example of what the system was capable of. The SS games largely hold up better then the PS1 games.

Go grab Yabause or SSF and some iso's and see four your self. FYI Yabause is a little pick about the quality of the ISO.
