guess it's time to get me the gdemu i've heard people talking about since my gd rom is shot.
is it really as simple as plugging it in and putting the SDcard in it?
I remember a few yrs back there was a bios chip that needed changing and a 40 pin ide cable you hade to solder on....
I see ebay has them for $50ish.

I have done two Dreamcast mods. It is one of the simplest mods I have ever done. The only thing is, if you have an original power supply, you should do a mud to it. One of the two I did had a dead power supply, so I just replace that component. That was extremely easy as well.

A mud?

I mean if you dont mind the price/wait ide say order a original.
1) support the dev but 2) you will be able to actually update it etc.

The gdemu.WordPress site has no order form for it.

Yeah, you have to sign up to the notifications and wait until he is doing a run of them.
Can be a bit of a PITA to be honest so I understand why people buy the clones as he really does not do himself any favours with his business model.
But OG is still the best :)

Here's the thing about clones..... gamers seem to think that somehow retro gaming as a business should magically work differently from all other businesses and it doesn't. If you make a product, get too greedy and mark up the price too high a knockoff will appear in the market and take all of your business. Likewise if you, for some strange reason, decide to do limited production runs of a product a knockoff will appear in the market and take all of your business. This is just how the marketplace works. On the flipside if you make a product that is reasonably priced and plentiful, the competition won't be able to touch you and you'll make a good profit.
Long story short don't pity the creators due to all the clones popping up as they put themselves in this position. I mean maybe it's just me but when I go to the grocery store I often by the "store brand" if I find that it tastes like the original and don't worry about the original company losing money so why would I act any different when purchasing retro gaming products? I mean if you are one of those snobs that are too good for "great value" fries instead of Orida even though the great value are cheaper and taste better you do you, but as for me I buy whatever is cheapest and of an acceptable quality.

Although I partly agree with you, Comparing a ODE to beans is not really plausible.
The dev without a shadow of a doubt screwed himself with the limited runs, Everyone told him it would be cloned and he chose to carry on regardless so I 100% agree on that front.
But the clones can not be upgraded with new firmware releases etc like the original so they are not the same or just as good in that respect.
The price point for it is reasonable but the wait is a PITA.
