Best 20.1" and 21.3" inch 4:3
« on: December 22, 2014, 10:31:25 am »
I would like peoples advises on the best 20.1" and 21.3" 4:3's out there.

I have heard recommendations for many 20" 4:3s on this forum, but not that many 21.3"'s, I'm guessing input lag would be at the top of the list, however as mentioned before it is not easy to ascertain the input lag on these monitors.

I heard there was a great 20.1" HP monitor, however that monitor had a silver bezel and I would prefer a black one.

thanks.

Thanks for that information, I was worried about input lag on these monitors and didn't know how to find out.

after some research I realised that these monitors would not mount a PC on them as their stand uses the vesa screws.

did dell not make any 20" 4:3 monitors back in thore days without a stand that uesd the vesa screws?

but I'm sure this information would be useful to someone that's thinking on these monitors.

dunno what u like to accomplish .. the stand is nicely constructed , heavy and solid .  u can put the screen into any angle , up and down and rotate 90 degrees if needed . or just take it off and use the vesa mounting plate for any construction ideas that are crossing ur mind .

people have bolted it on anyway, works okay for NUC, not so much for mini-itx ones.

any advices for a lightweight one, all these are really heavy, mainly due to the height adjustable stand.

apfelanni  :), could you help me with the measure of depth of these panels? I canīt find it online, itīs always around 9 inches on the specs pages but  I suppose thatīs with the base attached. I canīt picture these panels being that fat. ???

Iīm making a portable arcade machine inside a suitcase and I need to figure it out which of these panels is the slimmest and the lightest and at what measure.

Thank you, Iīll really appreciate it.

IF you putting it in a suitcase I would think you are going to mount it without the base ( the bases on these things are really heavy to offset the center of gravity when rotating to remain stable on the desk) so if removing the base that opens the VESA mounts for your NUC.

For 21.3" the Samsung 213T or 214T are nice also :
Delusional29's pic of his newly aquired 214T compared to a 17" screen :

the 2001FP monitor is a bit over 1 1/2 deep around the edges and about 3" deep overall depth with stand removed as shown in the attachment.

Pretty much the same for the HP LP2065 (another IPS 1600x1200 20" 4:3 to consider) though it has about a 1/4" base mount so is about 3 1/4" deep total.

Those screens are really heavy. Make sure your lid can support it.

This is excellent info guys... my idea is to use a suitcase like this and put the monitor inside with a VESA mount. As you can see in my rendering I used a 16:9 monitor, but most probably Iīll be getting a 4:3 now.

I think Iīm moving towards the 214T since it seems to be the lightest and biggest one of all these models. But maybe Iīm wrong since I canīt find the weight without stand of the unit and the depth of just the panel.

Iīll go for anything that you recommend at 4:3, 21.3" and lightweight with good response time for gaming.

By any chance guys, could you provide me with the depth of the 2007FP or the Samsungs 213T or 214T without the base. I need to make a decision soon in order to finish this project.

The monitor should not be deeper than 3 inches and as light as possible. Right now just by specs it seems that the lightest one of these recommendations by their spec sheet is the 2007FP at 11.5 lbs, but it is inconclusive since the 214T spec page only lists the weight with the base installed at 19.4 lbs.

Thanks!

Here are some pics of the progress (and a mexican coke):

According to eBay tracking, I should be receiving my 214T tomorrow.  I'll measure the depth and weight it (without the base) when I get it.

This is a cool looking project. I can't offer any useful information about the monitors but I think this thread should transition to the project announcement forum, where I'm sure you'll get more replies.

I really, really like the concept, 4-player briefcase and cool art. Looking forward to following this one.

Didn't show up Friday due to the snow storm we had (I live in VA).  I expect it will show up tomorrow (Monday).

FedEx are wimps!  They didn't even attempt delivery today despite temps in the 60's.  Oh well, tracker shows they will "attempt" tomorrow...

214T finally showed up.  Without the stand, it tips the scales at 14lbs.

And the depth without the stand is 3 1/8"

No dead pixels, scratches or other issues.  Not bad for just over 100 bucks.

Now I just need to hurry up and complete my cabinet.  :)

Woah! that looks nice, thank you so much for taking the time to measure and weight it.

I wonder if 14 lbs (6.35 kgs) itīs not a bit too much for my application. The 2700FP is 11.5 lbs (5.2 Kg)

Decisions, decisions... questions:

Is the 214T that much better for my application than the 2700FP? I mean for viewing angles or anything else I might be missing? Would maybe the 213T be lighter?

With the integrated power supply the 2700FP must be heavier than the 2001FP but I canīt find any spec sheets to confirm this.

Anybody out there willing to help weighting and measuring depth of their 2100FP ?  Thanks! :)

And you are correct, not bad for that price.
