SMB is a 8 way horizontal title. Pac-Man is a 4 way vertical, like the other classics. You're focusing on the wrong thing.

Right, it isn't a Nintendo theme issue, it is a game fitting well to the cabinet issue.

If you want SMB on your cabinet, Plan A is to make sacrifices on the controls to water it down for more games, which is gonna kill the DK experience. Plan B is to jump through hoops to make your cabinet transformable in monitor and controls, which I think in this case will still hurt the overall cabinet experience. Even if it doesn't, Flynn's Arcade can already play SMB dangerously well. I don't see the point in troubling yourself with swappable panels over a few horizontal games in this case.

I can't fault you for trying to get some more games out of your cab and ArcadeSD board, so I was recommending some 4 way vertical games that would at least play well on the cab, even if they don't fit in the theme.

By all means, give your panel the molex disconnects, whether you go swappable or not, it is a good feature for a cab. And like you said earlier, a 2nd panel would be a "Phase 2". You can make that decision when you get to that point. I really like this project, and if you can nail that ultimate DK experience, you succeeded. I will be guaranteed to drool in awe of your work. Whether or not it plays any other games is a minor thing in comparison.  8)

Oh, and chopper. Just because I am giving my opinion to Chance that he doesn't need a swappable panel, don't take that as a sleight against your project. I think your  DK is a different breed of project. You restored a classic but creating a non-intrusive multifunctional machine out of it at the same time. In your case, your solution is elegant and makes perfect sense.  Chance is designing up a bit of a unique statement piece here, so I think the circumstances change.

If there is a shade called "Purple Nurple", go with it.

Otherwise, see if you can color match to King Friday's cloak. That will ensure a regal shade.

Lose the fire.   And Mario needs to be hammering something.  I have something at the house you might want to add.  When I get home Ill PM it to you.

Minor niggle : To me, it looks like Mario is whacking at the barrels, which would require the barrels to be rolling uphill, which does not make sense.

Well, they are being rolled at him, so they do have some speed from that.

Yes, but they are coming from the far left, think about how much force it would take to roll them uphill with enough speed to knock a grown man down. And to do that rapidly multiple times.

Hmmm, I'm not sure the flame + barrels are working but I do like the new Jump Man. What if you had the barrels coming towards the viewer, i.e. getting bigger?

If you want to send me the .ai file I could play with it and give you a few options

I am assuming that there is a device on the far left, out of view, that is launching them. ;)

I like it. Visually it is fun, I think the image is dynamic. Maybe it doesn't make perfect sense but really?... there's a little dude chasing a monkey who's snatched up his woman and is throwing barrels and fire at him to slow him down. Sense?

I think there should be barrel shards flying out from beneath the hammer. Otherwise, it looks like he's pounding the ground. But it looks good.

Technically he pounds ground in game whether there is a barrel in front of him or not......

Still I too think barrel shards would look good.

Interested in what you end up paying for the monitor repair.  I ordered a cap kit today for my Wells Gardner K7000 series but im getting cold feet.

Make the fire 40% smaller.  Have the barrels rolling over the horizon (foreground to background) towards JM rather than coming from behind the horizon (background to foreground) and adjust the scale accordionly.  Most people don't notice when you end a sentence with an instrument.  Sharpen DK's teeth.

The monitor repair will only cost me $35 plus $20 parts (Canadian). I got a hell of a deal as a friend of a friend is doing it for me. There are almost a couple dozen components he wanted to replace. I said anything to try and save it. Might also have a line on a new frame so I can replace the bent up one.

I hear some guys will even recap D9200s for $Free.99...
