« on: November 23, 2014, 09:13:05 am »

So here's my idea.
Great big ol' touchscreen
Waist hi table with LED side rails

What's the largest touchcsreen?

How do I get the LEDs to fire the same as in the game?

Ideas? Thoughts?

Disclaimer: I have no idea how to write the actual code described below.

Consider using an AHK script like the one Le Chuck used in Darkade for auto-switching Tron between 4-way and 8-way depending on whether you are on a 4-way level (light cycles) or an 8-way level. (MCP)

In a nutshell AHK monitors a specific part of each video frame looking for an indication of which level you select and sets the 4-way/8-way servo stick accordingly.

For your application, you need to monitor 4 patches (red, yellow, blue, and green) of each video frame and when that color flashes brighter on the screen, have AHK trigger a relay that switches on the LED strip.

You might be able to get away with monitoring only 2 patches (red/blue and yellow/green) and doing two comparisons per patch.

^ That should do it, the smaller the sample size the better so you don't get false positives.  I don't know how much lag there might be tho, that game is pretty fast and I don't know if the LED blinky to script to AHK to game will work out.  Give it a shot.  Have that game in windows?

ELO makes some 40 inch LCD touchscreens. IIRC they are about 3500 buck. (plus shipping) they will also make you whatever size. for a premium of course.

This is the biggest one I've ever seen:

well, if y'all wanna get into a cock waving competition....

no idea what their digital signage units cost, but i suppose if you have to ask, you can't afford it. 300,000 isn't anything to sneeze at when it comes to advertizing. just look at those giant roadside digital billboards.

Would probably be cheaper to buy the glass overlay and find a cheap LCD tv to match. Although i cant imagine how fun it would be installing it, and making sure no dust gets inbetween.

I had a "real" air hockey table, one sold in a sporting store, for home use.
It took about a month for everyone to grow tired of it. After gathering dust for a year I sold it.
Just saying.

I would get a wii mote and a pico preceptor and build a try pod to hold them over a whit ply surface. You would need to add infored led to the padels your playing with.

Or I would just buy a Nok-Hockey.
