gas pedal questions
dkersten:
If you were going to put a gas pedal on a stand up arcade cabinet for use with 360 steering, which would you go with? Would you do just a pedal, or a pedal and a brake?
I am interested in both sprint and pole position, run with mame. I will use the button control in mame for shifter for pole position.

I'm at work so I don't have my person list, but there is a list of driving games and their controls floating around (check the driving & racing cab section). My point is, if you haven't already, you can make a list of all the driving games and see what their controls are and then go from there. For my personal needs, I only went with a gas pedal. My main desire is to play Super/Championship Sprint. Since that game only uses a gas pedal it made my decision rather easy. In addition to the Sprint games there are a bunch of other games that only have or need a gas pedal. I grappled with the idea of a shifter too, but decided to skip it for my build. Again, I don't have the list in front of me, but I suspect that if you went with a Gas/Brake and Shifter combo, that you'll be able to play the vast majority of driving games.

Anyone, besides me, totally ignore break pedals, unless they are absolutely necessary for a given title? I wouldn't bother with them. Personally, I've always played the older titles as if the accelerator was digital as well.
dkersten:
Cool, thanks, that is pretty much what I was thinking - no brake. I just wanted to get more feedback on the idea.
I already have a decent list of 360 games, which mostly is the sprint games, the ones based off it like APB and off road, pole position, and super buggy. There is a few more of course. I haven't bothered trying to get a 360 wheel to work on 270 games, I am satisfied with this list for the application. This is gonna be in a 4 player cab where they want the ability to play sprint and pole position with pedals and wheels.. I have the design in mind for the CP, just need to work out the pedals.
So who would you purchase a gas pedal from? I have only seen a couple out there from the usual vendors. I like the idea of analog since pole position works better with analog accelerator. Plus I already have an a-pac lying around for this.
lamprey:
I'd also go with analog. I spent a long time trying to get Sprint pedals. I ended up with Atari pedals; I think they where from a Badlands. There is a "shroud" that goes over them, that I didn't get as I didn't want that for my purposes. There are some pics in my build thread: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,139538.0.html
Man I need to finish that thing off... *sigh*
Probably easier to get ahold of are the "built-in" pedals. Here is a link to arcadeshop.de to get an idea:

Also, if you wanted the championship sprint pedals (the dual pedals grouped together), I have set that I'm not using that I'd sell.. :)
