QuasiCON adaptors
« on: October 17, 2014, 08:01:35 pm »
Is there anywhere to acquire the adaptors that typically ship with the Quasicade products?  I recently acquired a Quasicade Jr. and am missing one USB adaptor.  They are 15-pin male to USB cable, but I am not able to find anything.  I found a Sidewinder to USB cable, but it is female DB15.  I suppose I could use a gender changer on the end, but I know the cables have to exist with 15-pin on one end, and USB on the other, because I have one of them.  Just not sure where to find another! :P  Thanks!

that cable is likely custom made for the QuasiCON panel. you'll have to contact the company for a replacement or disassemble the panel and check the encoder for a FTDI (or similar) USB interface chip and where it connects to in the DB15 and hack yourself together a cable. it's only 4 wires. shouldn't be too hard.

Didn't they close shop in 2011?

Try contacting user Gravity123 here on the forums.  He may be able to help you directly since he founded the company.

I am also in need of those QuasiCON USB adapters for a Quasicade Jr.  Was Gravity123 able to help find a seller?

I just wanted to check to see if anyone else had found a source for these, I'm in the same boat (I need two Quasicon to USB PC adapters).  Thanks!

USB has precisely four contacts.  Look them up and splice them to the DB15. This is not rocket surgery.

So, before attempting to make a cable myself (I'm pretty uneducated in that sort of thing), I tried the Belkin Model F3U200-08INCH 8" Joystick Adapter DB15F/4Pin USB A M F-M and a gender changer to connect the Quasicon to my PC via USB.  And it didn't work!  I'm trying to work out how/why that combination of wouldn't work, and I'm open to suggestions.  Is it possible Quasimoto's cables were more complicated than originally suspected?

Similarly, I tried the PS2 connection that came from Quasimoto and a PS2 USB PC adapter, which also didn't work, but came a little closer - the lights on the Quasicon at least came on, indicating that it was getting power, and the PC recognized it as a USB controller, but it didn't recognize any button presses or stick movement.  And yes, the Quasicon works perfectly when plugged into a PS2.

I'm confused by these results, clearly.  If this isn't the appropriate forum for this sort of question, I apologize and will stop pestering you all.

Shipping something from the U.S. to Canada for repair/exchange?  Please use USPS to avoid (additional?/excessive?) shipping charges.  PM me if you have any questions.

Maybe.  This is what I was using, and it looks like essentially the same thing:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812107821&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Serial+Cables-_-N82E16812107821&gclid=CMmXzOaOzsQCFQ-saQodVR8ARg&gclsrc=aw.ds

I may give that one a shot though, plus a gender changer.  I'm just not clear on how it would be different from what I have already, or even what I (or someone else) could build.  I wonder if the Quasicon chip is looking for something specific to its own cables....

Just in case anyone else has this issue, I found that there's a company in the US called Rowdy Monkeys that sells the original Quasimoto/Quasicon PC to USB adapter cables.  Problem solved!  Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

You will probably want to contact Gravity123, (his profile is in one of the thread links above) he is still active occasionally,  Don't think you can PM with just 1 post though.

PMs are enabled when the account is upgraded to "Jr. Member".

The current threshold for that is one approved post.   ;D

You just need to search using the right terminology. You want "gameport to USB adapter". Google that and you will find 10 million options.

My understanding is that there are two kinds. Active and passive. Devices not designed to run with USB will probably need an active one with electronics inside instead of a dump plug adapter.

I've been searching for an adapter like this that works and have tried several to no avail.  Anyone have any luck coming up with where to get these?
