One of the most terrifying games I've ever played has to be Slender: The Eight Pages. The games is pretty basic, but it gives me the creeps. There is this very thin man who comes after you, trying to catch you; and all the while you're left in confusing, dense woods where you have to look for clues. The worst part? When this 'very thin man' tries to launch your stomach up to where your mouth should be. Ugh. Then there's the one called Dead Space, wherein you have to board an abandoned mining starship - except for the fact that it isn't abandoned and abounds with terrifying creatures of all kinds that do their best to scare the hell out of you. |

Dead Space hit the sweet spot for me. A nice mix of Alien/Event Horizon/The Thing, with shooting gameplay reminiscent of Resident Evil 4. |
