Ok Side vinyl has gone on.

I gave the sides a good few coats of High Gloss paint I had lying around, remembered to smooth out any imperfections in the finish first.

Was really nervous starting off the roll but found it went on quite smoothly.

All done,

I am happy with the finish very bright as I said earlier in my post I would have liked the vinyl to be that little bit thicker than it is, in the end you get what you pay for so we will see how the product holds up in the long run.

  • No. It's your top score on Pole Position.
Not sure why you painted your cab then applied your artwork instead of just giving sanding it with progressively lighter grit sandpaper each time.   :dunno To each their own.

For best adhesion painting first is the only way to go.  A lot of complaints about art lifting at the edges or "bad glue" on adhesive vinyl actually come from the surface prep.  Bare wood, even well sanded, is a very poor choice for decal work.

The paint seals the surface, fills in micro cracks, and offers a much better surface for the glue to stick to.  Painting first is definitely the way to go imo.

I asked a lot of the vinyl printer's when I was getting quotes and they all told me to get the surface looking like glass and they mentioned best prep was to paint surface with a High Gloss paint.  Got it as smooth as I could, seems to have stuck well.

+ 1.  Always use a glossy finish underneath.

Also if vinyl gets damaged or you get bored and want to change (not that I can see that happening here - WOW! what great artwork) is really easy to remove / replace

Loving the build

I cant argue with results.  Good to know paint is required before vinyl.  In case I go that route in the future.

Installed the marquee.
Backlit PVC Film with 3 strips of LED for backlights (Originally had a fluro tube in there but ended up with the LED's) Poylcarbonate for the front and an LCD Difuser at the back.
For the holder I used 20mmx12mm angle that I painted black.

Everything looks really well matched together.  Very clean.

Out of curiosity, the one thing that caught my eye was the coin door.  Why did you go with a single player coin door?

This.

I was wondering the same thing.  Just doesn't "look right".

In the end I liked the look of the door. It's main purpose is to finish off the look of the machine and I think it did that, the kids love putting the money in it which makes them happy.
Each to there own I suppose, but in the end I'm more then happy with the result.

Goof grief that thing is gorgeous!  I noticed that you had SF running full screen on a widescreen monitor.  Were any of the SF games actually wide screen or are you stretching it?  I gone out of my way to stick with 4x3 for my planned builds (I even snatched up a hard to find 24" 4x3 LCD at one point) but I'm curious if I'm going to have the opposite problem for wide screen games.  Anybody know if there are any/many in MAME?

I believe SF IV supports widescreen, so it isn't stretched.  But the MAME (or Dreamcast) ones are probably stretched, although you can set those for 4:3 modes so that you see the black bars on the sides.

Thanks, for price and service soul draw was awsome, the vinyl wrap has been been on for a good 8 weeks now and there is no lifting or peeling at all.
Like I mentioned earlier you get what you pay for, but so far so good.

I was going to put some angle brackets at the bottom of the CP but I found when I secured the bezel I did not need them The bezel holds it nicely in place.

Nice videos.

I noticed you use the default MAME with NAG screens (and thus probably without high score saving). Compile a NAG free hiscore enabled version of MAME to get an even more true Arcade feeling.

Awesome work, really like the artwork.
I have a question, how do you find Ultra SF4 plays with the 6 button layout? Just curious. I had to add 2 extra buttons for a 8 per side for it feel right. I also play SF x Tekken and MK9 ( which I am still not happy with ) and needed a couple admin buttons per side as well just to navigate menus.

Do you have a tutorial for this some were.
I started looking in to it back couldn't work it out
