Hey - good to see another Aussie here!  :applaud:

I am interested to see how your build goes as I am a huge fan of the Street Fighter series.

And yes MDF dust is the worst. Sawing is bad, but routing was the killer for me. That ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- goes everywhere. I think I have turned the inside of my garage a "powdered cheese" yellow colour  :dizzy:

Good luck with your build!

Next positioning/mounting Speakers:

Have been able to source kickass sound setup for my cab.
Using a Beats by Dr. Dre Beatbox

2x 5.25"Woffer's
2x 2" Tweeter's

After alot of measuring and thinking about how I willl mount the speakers I finally settleted on mounting them on the top and having round holes.
I cut the speaker holes using a hole saw Drill bit, really come up well.

Mounted my 29" LED TV and fitted 60mm Flouro Tube for the marquee.

Not really happy with the blind spots on the sides of the marquee, I have ordered some led strips from Ebay think I will try them. The white backing is from an old LCD TV I pulled apart it spreads the light well considering

Hi,

Nice build so far. As the design seems to based on Project Mame (besides the Width) which I based my build on too I have some advice:
- Round the sharp corners of the side panels at the marquee and CP. You will get problems mounting the t-molding otherwise (and it looks better in my opinion).
- Make the CP deeper to better fit your buttons and keep some space to rest your hand palms.
- How are you gonna mount the bezel as I don't see any battens.

The image below shows the rounded edges with t-molding and the deeper CP:

Thanks for the advise, yes the design was based on a Project Mame but modified it a bit.
I am very limited on CP depth I will stretch it as much as I can, but just don't have the room.
For the bezel I am going to mount it with 4 angle brackets from the back should hold it up.

:soapbox: I hate painting, Especially using black paint, this has been  :censored: so far. At least the warmer weather is helping with the drying time, bought the new beaut NAP roller was told by the Bunnings guys it's the best for gloss paint ....... :tool:...... It was crap left fur everywhere when I was applying the black, I followed all the cleaning instructions before hand as well. Lucky I painted the back first so not much damage done.

Went back and got a 10pk of foam rollers for $10, no fur great finish and no more cleaning up, straight in the bin when done, even got a few cheap roller tray's as well so not even going to bother cleaning them.
Will post some more pics soon.

Painting

Black High Gloss

For the bits you dont see I had a tin of water based black I gave it a quick coat.

Picked up a Sheet of Polycarbonate from Bunnings that I will use for the Marquee Front and CP cover, got my X-Arcade delivery and picked up my Control Panel Gear from OZStick.

Well there's always laminate.......I painted my first cab, will never do that again...

The cost to buy the primer, paint plus the sheer agony of making it look right, a few sheets of laminate a roller and glue is highly appealing and way easier.

Plus the finish is better and more durable.

Very true, Laminate would be a great option.
If you can paint your cab in pieces then assembly I think the job will come up alot better, but if you need to assemble first then paint be prepared for some swearing.

Laminate is the way to go if you plan on occasionally using your cabinet as a kitchen counter for sure.

Interesting,  I normally laminate all of my pieces then assemble.

I think i spent about $300.00 on my paint job and didnt get the true results i wanted.  Then when moving i scraped the hell out of it with the table saw and gouged my 300.00 paint job.

Just be careful moving it and give it alot of time too cure, if your patient then painting can be rewarding, or as you say a complete swear job.

LMAO...........ORRRRRR

If you want a smooth surface to work with (no orange peel), less scratch resistant, shows less fingerprints.  If your a pro painter have at it, some people do it well and have awesome results, just way too time consuming for me.

I'd probably try laminate if there were some way I could just roll up to the store and buy a few sheets. I don't feel like special ordering or anything like that.

There's always FLEABAY.

Another alternative is this stuff...cheap and in different colors.

There's no need to get rude. I just want to help and yes I use quite often pictures from my own build to visualize my response. This build is even based on the same design as mine. Very childish to "If you post yours I will post mine".

I will not waste more time on your response...

Looks great! Did you check how the CP looks with joystick and buttons on it? E.g. don't they interfere with the images?

On the CP I would swap the big Ryu and Chun Li.
In the character roster I would swap Ken and Ryu and also Sagat (?) (the third guy on the marquee's left team) with someone from the right team so that you get the same teams on the marquee and on the CP.

+1 on the artwork very sharp.  I also liked your idea to use handles on the rear panel.  Saves your hands from those bastard random splinters.   :D  I have two questions though.  Why are you using such exspensive parts when you are only using it to play SF? (60 inch led, dr dre beats)  And @ rablack how did you end up spending $300 on paint?  Seems a little steep.  I had three shades of black, white primer and DK blue and my total was under $75.  I havent used laminate and I agree paint will chip if you arent careful but $300 blows my mind.  Oh well to each their own.  Clean cabinet so far FR.  Keep up the good work.

Art Work sent off to Souldraw.com
Going for an orange base
This is the Control Panel and Marquee.

Looks great! Did you check how the CP looks with joystick and buttons on it? E.g. don't they interfere with the images?
Spent weeks on the artwork, some buttons will cover bits here and there but have got it the best I can

Would love to have a 60" but even I think that's  overboard  ;), using a 29" Teac Led. The speakers are a few years old picked them up second hand as the iPod Dock was damaged which suited me fine didn't cost anymore then a decent set of computer speakers.  Same as you with the paint would not have been more then $70

Souldraw.com looks like a very cheap alternative for GameOnGrafix. They have backlit material for marquees and "Non Skid Decal - Frosted Vinyl Floor Sticker" as alternative for GoG's polycarbonate laminated CP's. Do you (or anybody else) have experience in their quality?

On the CP I would swap the big Ryu and Chun Li.
In the character roster I would swap Ken and Ryu and also Sagat (?) (the third guy on the marquee's left team) with someone from the right team so that you get the same teams on the marquee and on the CP.
I spent so much time on it modifying and changing characters and especially the side art I had to draw a line at some point.  I am more then happy with the final product

Price wise there was nobody even close especially in Australia, I was looking at triple the price for next cheapest. It's definitely worth the risk for me, others have recommended them so I will try them out
