We have too many vendors
« on: August 19, 2014, 08:18:30 am »
vendors need to be trimmed and or moved to their own section.  We just added ANOTHER one, and lucky for us its one who prides himself on destroying cabs. YAY! LUCKY US!

Perhaps but still much better for each vendor to have a single sticky thread for his wares that can just be bypassed to get to the real BST threads than a new item for sale thread every couple days/hours linked to their website !!!

It would also be nice to have a more nuanced feedback system.  Generally what happens is someone has an issue with a vendor, pbj posts "I told you so", then the vendor has delusional delete everything and bribes the buyer to remove what they said.  Unfortunately, these turds won't flush and trying to protect new people gets tiresome.

The things I do for you people.  Sigh.

I agree.  The stickies at the top of Buy/Sell/Trade should have their own forum.

All the vendor threads in the BYOAC section is the issue, stickied or not.

Probably damned if you do and damned if you don't.. Since we are on the topic.. I'm probably in minority, but I'd like to see all the "vendors" selling art services moved out from the Artwork Sticky Topics too. Perhaps a child board under Artwork or  Buy/Sell/Trade.

We previously had vendors in their own forum - everyone complained loudly. I'm happy to do it either way, would need a pretty good consensus vote here to change it.

My 2 cents is that anyone with a business webpage should be wiki only. These folks start a thread for every new product  they introduce and don't conduct their business primarily through pm anyway. Leave B/S/T for the little guys  who focus on one product/service and members selling or looking for stuff.

I like how KLOV does it - they have a thread for vendors/services only, a thread for parts only and a thread for whole machines. Here, a vendor/little guy split would probably be fine.

Then again, for me it doesn't matter, because I view by unread posts anyway!

Out of curiosity, what was the main complaint about this? It seems reasonable to me.

My main impetus for posting there was my agreement that vendor sticky list is too long. I don't mind if they are posting a new product or what not. However, I don't see the need to maintain a sticky for that business. My assumption is that these businesses are paying (sponsor) for the privilege of the sticky. Assuming that is true, I certainly appreciate companies sponsoring this site, but I'd rather see a list of sponsors prominently displayed rather than all the vendor stickies.

No one pays for vendor stickies. They just have to be a vendor in good standing.

The list of B/S/T stickies is periodically reviewed to check if the vendors are still active.

How about if the vendor sub forum was a place that only vendors could make a post.  Catch is that they could only have one post at a time so it would be like a billboard of sorts.  Anyway to automate that?

One valuable aspect of having the current style of vendor threads is the publicly visible customer interaction.

Transparency and sunlight are great disinfectants for shady operators.   ;D

The solution to pollution is dilution.  Clearly what we need is actually more vendors.  It's obvious really.

They should have a sub forum, and users should be able to post there.   From the interactions Ive had with people, here is how they use the B/S/T section:

1)Click Buy  / Sell / Trade
2)Scroll past all the stickies.
3)look at user's threads

You literally can not see the first user post if your resolution is at 1920x1080 or lower (standard HD) without scrolling down. The screenshot attached is after I already scrolled down to put the first stickied at the top of the screen.  I'm not advocating removing the vendors or hiding them anywhere, just putting them into their own section where they belong.  I say give it a whirl, and if NON VENDORS ---smurfette--- and moan, change it back and I'll never bring it up again.

Current layout works well IMHO.

1. Click on B/S/T.
2. Page down once, see new stickied posts.
3. Page down twice more, see new non-stickied posts.
4. Page up twice and click on "mark read" -- done.   ;D

Agreed, that sounds so much better than
1. Click B/S/T
2. Use B/S/T

Voices falling on deaf ears, so I'll just lock this up and ignore the first page of BST, next year when the actual regular user threads start on page 2 I'll mention it again.
