Anyone good with photoshop ?
« on: August 13, 2014, 09:40:34 pm »
Hi all ! I think I finally got an idea of a theme for my arcade ! I want it to visually refer to video games without being to obvious. Like a mature theme of video games we love. I have this image which I'd like to be modded. Instead of the legend of zelda zelda I'd like it to say legend of Jmax, my bodding the Z it wouldn't be too hard to make a J out of it but for the rest I have no clue. Maybe it's not possible I don't know.

Thanks a lot for looking and thank you to everybody that chime in !

It will be virtually impossible to replace the text if you only have the bitmap. If this is the original image to work on it is useless (too low resolution) to print as marquee or cp overlay anyway.

Isn't the giant hyrule crest in the background kind of obvious?

too much hassle to edit that, it'd have to be re-created. 3D can be faked well enough in photoshop, but best of luck finding someone with the skill set who wants to do it (for free?)
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Okay guys ! Thanks a lot for the replies !

Nah, I was ready to shell the money needed to make it possible but it if it isn't I won't cry. Maybe you can point me in a direction for the theme I was thinking ?

I'm scourring the forum since 2 months (before I even joined) looking for a theme and so far I have absolutely no idea except maybe that dark not so obvious theme (even if, as mentionned, the hyrule crest is kinda obvious)

Thanks again ! I appreciate it

Wow ! That is nice !!! It even seems to have the perfect dimensions for the marquee.

Do you took a picture straight from the internet or you did a montage ?

I'm wondering, would it be possible to extend the side of one of those and make it suitable for a marquee, with adding that legend of Jmax ?

Thanks a whole lot ! That is soo cool to finally see something along what I was thinking

It's pulled from the net and then adjusted in PS but as noted is squished a bit too much (the original dimensions didn't work real well for a marquee without cropping the statue head ) -- The Legend portion is the Triforce Font with a few modifiers so is easy to add to another pic - Let me see about getting the pic you linked and I'll post in a few.

What are the actual dimensions of your Marquee ??

Sorry I won't be at home for 2 weeks, I work in the great white north but my girlfriend took some measurements !

The plexiglass covering the marquee is 6 7/8" x 27"

Thanks a lot JDfan, I can't thank you enough for your help

OK - Had to adjust it a bit to resize to proper dimensions but Here is a pic and also a link to a zip file containing the full size png version (It's too big to post here due to the 2MB per pic forum limit -- https://www.dropbox.com/s/zovknu468nn0wi2/LOJmaxVer01.zip ) -- Let me know if you need any adjustments made.

Thanks a lot JDfan !!! You made someone very happy today.

So as far as I know, I can send this file straight to gameongrafix and it'll be okay ?

Also do you think that concept would look good as a marquee when light up ?

If every answers are yes I'm gonna send this right away to a printer and when I'll be back home I'll send you pictures for sure

The fullsize PNG that I zipped is 27x6.877 Inches @ 300DPI (8100x2063 Pixels) so if that is the proper measurement for the marquee (Wife listed 27 x 6 7\8 which would be 6.875) then it should be ready to go -- If there will be brackets that cover a portion of the plexi then it may need to be downsized a bit and a border added (currently the TEXT is about 1/2 inch in from the outer edge so as long as more than that is not covered on top and bottom by any bracketing it should be fine) -- If you need it adjusted let me know how much more border it needs and I'll adjust it and reupload.

It should look good lit up - just be sure to get it printed on Backlit vinyl that is designed for backlighting and not regular vinyl so the light will show through properly.

OK Here is an adjusted png - I made the text a bit smaller to give more border and also adjusted the sword handle so it is about 1\2" down from the top. (so sword is 1\2 inch and text is 1" - as it will still look OK if the sword gets trimmed a bit but do not want the text cut off ! ) -- Dropbox LINK https://www.dropbox.com/s/u2u2iiax0o202xd/LOJmaxVer02.png

Hey JDFan !

The wife wants this as a part of the sideart, do you think it would be possible to add that kind of glow to your text for the marquee, or that kind of ice texture, similar as what the sword has ? or something that would add a continuity between the two ? If it's not possible it's no big deal !

By the way I can certainly pay for all of your hard work

Thanks a lot !

EDIT : Added the picture ahah

I think the text on a marquee should stand out more (using a bigger, bolder font and / or using brighter colors) and I personally don't like marquees with black / dark backgrounds but if you like it I guess it's fine

Well on the screen it looks awesome but as a marquee I don't know, it's the first arcade I've ever built. I'm really optimistic though

No hurry - I was just giving mike boss a hard time about the delays he has been running into that has slowed his Punch out build for a few months. Cause we had gone back and forth for a while when working on it with different variations and I had told him spending the time on it wasn't a problem as long as he used it. (And the timing was good since it has actually been shipped to him just a few days ago !)

I got a question for all of you pro arcade builders and pro photoshoppers,

I wanted a dark zelda theme (which is exactly what I got for my marquee and mala theme) I asked JDFan to include a rainbow logo to the marquee, the reason is I have RGB led buttons and the wife finds it important to make them fit with the control panel overlay. I want to know your idea on how to make this possible, if it is. Otherwise maybe another plan so everybody is happy.

Please don't judge, I know that dark theme and rainbow don't fit easily together. She also found that picture she liked if this can give you an idea

Edit : if you find something then I could start thinking about the control panel overlay and sideart

That's not TOO bad as a background. Just keep it simple and don't slap a ton of Zelda characters on it and you should be OK.

Hum, anyone's got an idea about how can I get away with it by including some of that in the sideart ?

Thanks once again :D

this is just the creative side of me talking, but why not have the CPO be Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" Album cover, but replace the prism with a triforce?

What ?

Thought about this before, look

Edit : If I was to use this, I'd like to remove the birds on the white beam and the moon and stars and the white cloud in the background

Edit for JDFan : Both pictures are right here buddy

As promised. Here's the first version of my marquee that JDFan kindly designed.

Another one is on the way due to a little confusion. I'll show you pictures of the other one as soon as it arrives.

The marquee is great in my opinion and when it is lighted it pops more than I would have thought.

Thanks everybody and thank you once again JDFan

Yeah I can't wait to see it myself ! I've been called to work in overtime so I got  6 days off and I'll be in the great north for at least a month.

I can post a picture here when it's finished (don't wait for it ahah)

Thanks a lot and yeah V2 is a masterpiece from JDFan
