Pole Position going right to service menu when launched

When I launch pole position in hyperspin it gos right to the service menu I have to hit right shift+ F3 and the F2 to make it reload and work normally please help

Not sure where the dip switch settings are stored, but it sounds like Hyperspin (hyperlaunch?) is writing to or replacing the file.
I'm not a Hyperspin user, so can't help you there. 

I never understood the logic of having hyperlaunch mess with your MAME files when MAME is so easy to set up from within.
With some other emulators where you need the controls configured differently for each game and the emulator doesn't give you the option, I get it.
But for MAME? c'mon.  It's just adding unnecessary confusion and headaches.

Well the thing is I built my own arcade cabinet from scratch with my son. I just like Hyperspin for its simplicity for friends and family they can just walk up and play.  but yes it can be apain some times but I can usually find and fix the problems.  Or find someone that has had the same problem and see how they fixed it.  just not this time thank you for all your help.

Could not find a .ini but did delete .cfg no chang.

It won't make a difference though if Hyperlaunch is changing it every time the game is launched.

crashdogy: I had the SAME issue you did! What worked for me is I switched to the poleposa2 (Pole Position Atari Version 2) romset in my Hyperspin MAME database and it works fine without that weird service menu startup issue! I'm using MAME .153 BTW

I dont believe the issue HS directly but, indirectly. Often to get the clean close back to the frontend, it will force closes the emu which means any changes does not get saved. Open it with mame directly, change the dip switch and exit the emu properly. reopen it with mame to test that mame know where to save the cfg. if it did not save the changes, then go to the setting and make sure your directories are properly set up. Then try loading it through HS. If the issue is still there, then do the same thing, check the directories in the ahk file. If the issue is gone. then its golden

Working in Mame but not hyperspin if I hit F3 and it will start up.    In what settings would I be looking in all other games working fine.  Thank you for your help

You're welcome! It sounds like what you need to do is change the rom name in the MAME database in Hyperspin. It's in the database folder in your Hyperspin Directory. I just edit it by opening it with notepad, then ctrl+f to open a text search and type "polepos" then enter. That should jump you right down to the Pole Position entry in the database. Then just edit the game name which is the rom set name... in this case...

game name="polepos"

CHANGE TO...

game name="poleposa2"

And Hyperspin should load that alternate romset instead of the parent "polepos" one which has this issue.

Make a copy of that MAME database file as a backup before messing with it just in case. Then you'll want to go into the media folder and copy all the polepos art files such as the wheel image, the theme, and the video and rename those "polepos2a" so that they also show up in Hyperspin. Almost everything that Hyperspin loads up in the GUI for MAME is based on the rom set name. So you change a romset or add a game, you need to rename all the artfiles as well.

Hopefully that doesn't confuse you more! I'll keep an eye out for you just in case!

Also as a sidenote, I noticed in the "whatsnew" notes for the new release of MAME 154 notes a bug fix for some of the Namco games including the polepos driver. It was to sort a crash after post. I haven't gotten around to updating my MAME set yet to test it out, but I think that may of well could've been the culprit.

That's ridiculous already new version of mame,  I just got done updating at 0.153 Roms and CHDs. Now I gotta go back and reupdate everything again.  I guess I'll just try that and see if that fixes it, if not ill try alternate solution on.  Thanks again.

A bit off topic, but anyone running 153 should upgrade.  It has a bloom effect render error for hlsl that makes the screen look washed out.
