If you can, making it out of MDF (1/2" is ideal for this) is better. As this is your first build, creating a mock MDF panel is good training for building the real thing. Especially if you're planning on routing out recessed areas for joysticks.

I think I will make it out of cardboard first, after that ill move up to MDF and then I will make with some type of wood. I like the idea of testing it to see how it feels before moving on to anything more expensive then Free :P
