Malenko: Thanks for your input.  :applaud:

I really liked your background more than mine since it's actually from OutRun, but I couldn't find a high-res pic of it.  :banghead:
And don't mind the button colors, they are not decided yet.
The admin-buttons IS at the bottom panel. This CP artwork will be folded over the entire CP, so the 14 topmost centimeters are the top panel. It will look like this from the top:

That being said, there will be no room for a standard shifter, and if it were it would be enormous on this little cab. And I'm not sure about the idea of all the controls on one side of the wheel. But I DO see your point of the player-buttons being placed next to each other.

And to explain the 1 and 2-player buttons: This cab will also be used for playing games that requires a spinner, Arkanoid for example.

And a question: Is it possible to make ONE sequential View-button? So if you push the View-button it will loop through the different views.

Well, just keep your ideas coming folks. The final result will probably be something in between.

Ummm, would't that setup be akward to play ? You'll be using the left hand for gas nearly the whole time, the right hand for steering. Now you want to shift low. Using your third hand.

yamatetsu: Well, actually no. The distance between the wheel and the buttons are so tiny that you can have your fingers on the buttons simultaneously. I've tried that. Also, the initial plan is to use pedals for gas and brake. The buttons are there for "reserve" or for the times the pedals are not connected.

I only used that background cause I butchered your original up pretty bad moving things around :)

If thats the case I'd probably do the buttons in a diamond pattern.  Keep the wheel off center to the left (like a real car) put gas and brake side by side, and put shift up above it in the middle, and shift down below it in the middle. This seems the most functional. Theoretically you can hold the gas with your ring finger, shift up with middle, shift down with thumb , and brake with index; or  just gas with your middle finger and use your index finger on everything else. I think it'll also work pretty well for when the pedals are connected :)

I also took into consideration playing a game like arkanoid, where you would have to "steer" and shoot at the same time (laser power up) this seems to work best for that too, so you have 1 hand to move the spinner and one to fire the buttons.  Just spit ballin ideas for ya, I wont be butthurt if you stick with your lay out.   Attached is a mock up, I took the time to doctor the background a little. Spacing is probably not 100% accurate, but thats why its called a mock up :)

CP version 1.2:

With wheel:

With spinner knob:

I feel like the spinner/wheel have to be centered, as I think it looks good having it at the end of the road there. :lol PS: I haven't aligned anything 100% yet. I also have to make sure that the admin-buttons don't get in conflict with the main player buttons or the spinnner.

hahhahha I see you sneaking more buttons in there now!

If you want the wheel centered, Id try to move the g/b/su/sd diamond more to the right a tick. I'd also spread the 2 sets of admin buttons a little further apart  so they dont cover the center line ( just personal preference) and a little more preference, Id make the shift up button on top, and the shift low on the bottom.

Malenko: Hehe.. yeah... but that's the final buttons.

I moved the admin-buttons away from the center and printed it out. Here's a mockup with wheel: (Notice that there's plenty of room underneath the wheel, so I don't HAVE to move those buttons to the right.)

With spinner knob:

It may actually be quite nice at the end:

But I have to get the admin-buttons away from the rest, otherwise they will be in conflict with each other.

yeah it definitely makes more sense to me to have them centered now that I have a visual. Probably better to leave them centered, then just move the radio/view buttons to the left as needed for clearance.   Now I'm super anxious to see the final product

I really don't need a Pause-button, so the question is: Can I skip the coin-button also? Can I map coin and player start to ONE button? Or maybe it's better to set freeplay on all games? In that case I can take out two of the admin-buttons.

You can double map - in my experience just a few games have weird conflicts and none of them are drivers IIRC.  BTW, I'd get smaller buttons, no reason to use full size for all those, especially the admin buttons.  Just a thought.  Looking great!

I was thinking more along the lines of putting an exit button on the top , moving the start buttons up and putting coin under them, and double mapping gas as enter, then you have no buttons down there.

This is the final placement of the buttons. This solves everything. It's enough room for all buttons and the hinges. I'll show you that at a later point. (there's just enough room for the coin-button there.).
The only thing I'm not 100% sure of is the background image.
About using smaller buttons: Well, I could, but I have so many buttons lying around I have to use them, and I like this size best.

Why don't make your own retainers from aluminium ?
There are some fine, already in the right shape strips

If you want something with a nice curve, you can pick a protection strip from a stair and trim it flat... ( hope it's good English )  :dizzy:

It's a tight fit (this is the coin-button):

From inside the CP. Here you also see the hinges:

Loudspeakers mounted and monitor bezel adjusted and fastened. This is by far the coolest cab I've built so far.  But I'm not sure how to fix the back on this one yet. I do need a fan back there, but when it's curved... how the hell do I do that?  Well, I'll probably figure out something.

How about a square or rectangular recess in the back ?

- cut out a hole that is bigger than the fan

- make a small bezel for the fan

- the bezel goes straight down from the hole's upper edge, at a right angle to the ground

- make a "floor" board that goes from the lower edge of the bezel to the lower edge of the hole, parallel to the ground

- make two side boards that go from the left/right side of the bezel to the sides of the hole

- trim those so that they follow the curve

- voila !

The back panel is about to be finished. I made room for 2xUSB, 1 footswitch jack and a powerbutton.

With footswitch jack plugged in.

The footswitch jack is a standard 6.35mm stereo jack.

It's like 30 degrees outside, and I can't lie still in a sunbed. :dizzy: I have to DO something. So today I've been sanding, filling, priming, sanding, filling, priming...
And, I made the T-molding slots!  The T-molding slots is the worst thing I'm doing. One glitch with the router and you may have to start from scratch again. Fortunately it went like a dream!

The monitor bezel sure gave me a hard time, but I finally nailed it. I found some wood strips that were cut 45 degrees:

Testfitting inside cab. I have applied one coat of primer. Next is more filling and sanding. I think it looks good. :-)

This is genius -  :applaud: - will be using this idea in the future!

Testing artwork on the cab. I like it! I just had to mount the monitor for this video. Also the bezel surrounding the monitor look good I think.
PS: The upper marquee bracket is just temporary.

A friend of mine is crippled and has a heavily modified truck. The steering wheel has like a Deadman's switch kind of deal that extends from the steering wheel right under it so he can hold the wheel and clutch the switch at the same time.

I don't suppose something like that would be possible for your cabinet? You'd just have to jerry-rig something up to hit a cherry switch under the panel.
