Buying my pin!
« on: March 15, 2014, 02:31:30 pm »
Woohoo!  I've been looking to buy a Spirit of '76 pinball for a while now.  When I asked about it in the Buy/Sell forum, I learned that it's considered a bit of a collector's item anymore and that it was pretty spendy.

Well, I just found one.  $700 and it's in fantastic shape.  Owner had it serviced about 8 months ago through a local company.  Called them and reviewed the service record and it was in good enough shape that they tried to buy it off the owner, who refused at the time.  I'm probably picking it up later this week.  So excited!

The reason I want this particular pin so bad is because my father in law was one of the engineers who created the machine.  He apparently designed the sound system.  I just think this will make an awesome family heirloom.

On that note, I've never transported a pinball machine before.  I've got a truck so that's not an issue.  Any advice or instruction for transporting the machine?

Take the balls out, take the legs off, and take anything loose inside out.

Grab a blanket, a piece of cardboard, and a ratchet strap.  Wrap the cardboard on both sides with a blanket, drop the head onto the cardboard on the body and ratchet strap it down.  If you think there is even the minorest tinyest chance of rain bring a 3mil plastic drop cloth and a roll of duct tape to seal it up.

Nice price.  Remember that EM heads aren't hinged.  Take out bolts, lay head down, pad something on top of play field glass to keep back glass from falling out

Just like prom night, baby.
