Purely my opinion but I would go with the 24 if you are going to mount it vertical, 27 horizontal.

Went ahead and got the 27". I think it was the right choice but time will tell. Thanks for all your input. I will be putting up a project announcement soon.

the big sonys may be a reasonable choice for tv purpose , but i would never take one of the 27 ( 29 inch ) for a lowres arcade monitor .  lowres monsterscreen arcade on armlength sucks ass . the other downside of trinis is their weight and the sony specific shape of the tube . i once grabbed a sony 29x5d in good conditon with a wonderful picture . it really was a nice 50-60 hertz tv or for console gaming on 2-3 m distance . but i had no use for that , so i gutted it and replaced the chassis of a broken 25x5d , which is still running in my ok baby candy cab .  i prefer 14 - 21 inch vertical and 20-25 inch horizontal . 27/29 inch only vga mode horizontal to replace broken candycab screens .  one of my 3 naomis is orientated vertical for vga shooters . even its a very decent screen the size is a pain in da ass . if i could get a 25 inch bezel the 29 inch would go right out of the window . people with egret or astros playing lowres vertical make me laugh . if something looks like shi_  and feels like shi_ it maybe is shi_ .

i always wonder whats wrong with u us guys and ur bigger is better stuff ..

I guess it is a matter of opinion.  I  have a 27/29 in my cab and I love it.  Haven't had any complaints from guests either.  My next cab is going to be a vertical and I definitely wouldn't go with a monitor that size but a 24 inch did seem to fit the build nicely.

I think 25 is about the best size. I have a 27" tri-sync in my vertical and its fine. It was what I had for a monitor so its what I used.
Most of the vertical game resolution don't fit the screen so its fine. but it also works nice for the horizontal games to be about 19" in size.
