Or just go full-fledged Chuck-E-Cheese with the place. Nolan Bushnell won't mind.  ;D

So while this legality thing keeps getting brought up let me ask the legality of tournaments.

Where exactly does that stand legally as a business running a tourney (either with a cash prize from a entry pool or something non monetary)?  How about a private citizen?

I'm curious because I just got a old cab to redo (I will post in projects once I get some more pictures  ;D) and lots of people have shown serious interest in a tournament of X or Y game.  It sounds like a great way to give some people that old school arcade feeling but I wouldn't want to get in legal trouble.  Thoughts?  Opinions?
DaveMMR:
As a business owner, do you have a lawyer? Or someone for legal matters? You should be asking him/her these questions honestly if you are concerned about how it'll affect your livelyhood.

That being said - I go to a game place that has a MAME machine set up on free place for tournaments once a month. I don't think they've ever been hassled.

No business here, I'm a private citizen and was just asking general questions about all of the scenarios.

To be fair I don't think the lawyer would have much insight in the workings of arcade emulation.  I'm sure we have more knowledge on the subject as we are most often complicit.
