Sounds good in theory but I'm not sure that's how we'll use it.  Case in point, mine shows at three and we all know that I haven't posted a damn good thing in years.  Hell, about the only time I add value around here is in Software and I haven't posted there in a few weeks.

I'd say it is handy for someone like me who has many posts that say: "neat. thanks for sharing" 

On another forum I frequent, there is an option to like a particular post.  Each post I make has a record of likes received and the total is presented underneath my screen name and avatar, like the up-votes are here on my profile page.

What we have now may not be perfect, imagine how many pages pixelhugger's post would have been if there was a favorite, like or an upvote option.

I use it to establish clique and make others feel less about themselves.  I've been upvoting all my imaginary internet friends and not voting everyone else.  I also created a shadow accound with 6 posts and set a batch to upvote me every hour on the hour so I can win.

Ideally, I like what Eric posted. I see rep for individual posts as being the most valuable. Neph had said in the other thread that seeing what thread the rep was earned for was probably the best bet.

Rep seems to be good to new members, but for people who have stuck around for long enough, you should already have a sense of who is full of crap and who isn't.
Personally, I could care less about rep. Most of the advice I give is for artwork, or control preferences, and both of these are subjective anyways...
