(I) Fix(ed)-it Felix Wrapper
« on: November 23, 2013, 01:40:56 am »
Ok so over the course of this weekend I fixed the official Disney version of Fix-it Felix Jr. that was leaked this spring.  Fullscreen on horizontal monitors is now possible as well as all of the configuration options you would expect and the ability to save high scores!

You can download the latest version on my website (click the Dragon King logo below)

Preview:

Enjoy!

*EDIT 8/17/15*

Attention Windows 8 and Windows 10 users!!!  If you are having trouble getting the wrapper to resize the game or trouble with getting the game to exit do the following:

Step 1:  Right click FixitFelixJr.exe go to properties and set compatibility to windows xp service pack 3.
Step 2:  Do the same for FixitFelixJrFP.exe.
Step 3:  Right click on FIFJ.exe go to properties and check the "run as administrator" box.

Now you should be good to go

Eh they can't do anything.  The game itself didn't have a commercial license, and even if it did I don't include it.  Besides, I'm pretty sure I could take Goofy in a one-on-one fight.

Heh yeah I'm pretty punny like that.

I've been installing this on my own cab and have found a few minor bugs so I'll do another release soon.  Also someone contacted me via email (sorry I've been too busy to respond) about adding the ability to mute the audio in attract.  I'm not sure how possible that would be, but I will look into it.

I added a cocktail mode.  It takes advantage of that easter egg where the screen rotates if you scroll the mouse wheel.  It isn't perfect, but it gets the job done.  Again, probably not a popular feature, but it was really easy to implement once I stumbled across the variable.

Thanks for this.  Was using the other Fix it Felix I had found and it didnt let me easily assign buttons.  Yours was so easy and worked like a charm in my cab.  Awesome work!

Howard, for the cocktail mode can you add an option in the setup to not allow this?  I've got a spinner on my control panel mapped to the z-axis and when the spinner gets hit it rotates the entire game.  Thanks for all your great work, I really appreciate it.

Sorry, I haven't found a way, no.... it might be possible though, I just haven't had a chance to look.

Anyway, 5.2 is out, this fixes forced polling, adds a cocktail mode and fixes a bug preventing really large high scores from saving.

Thanks for this, kids will love the high scores.

With the cocktail mode, is it possible to flip the screen a bit earlier (i.e. have it flipping at the "2 Player Ready" screen)? Also, have you managed to find 2nd player controls in the code, or are we just going to have to put up with controls being shared?

Another thing, I've found on my cab, it'll start in a small windowed mode ~50% of the time. I've got it set to 90 degree rotation, full screen, no bezel. This doesn't happen if it's launched from the original EXE (i.e. outside of your wrapper) with the "-rotate=90 -fullscreen" commands - is there any way to get your wrapper to launch it in this way? I've tried adjusting the delay for resize (50ms, 500ms, 1000ms), but I don't think it's for this.

(Sorry for another edit) - I know I might be being a bit of a pain, but is it possible to add a checkbox to decide if you want it to save the coins in the highscore.dat file - I've got a three year old who loves pressing the "insert coin" button on my cab, and it'd be nice to start the game without 99 credits every time :).

This stuff is addressed in the readme.  Cocktail mode doesn't exist, I made it.  I'm using a bit that indicates the current player to flip the screen.  Since the current player doesn't change until after the ready screen it's impossible for me to flip it early.

You can use ahk or whatever you prefer to clone the controls... 2p controls don't exist.  Since in every arcade cocktail I've ever seen, the controls are all wired to the same inputs, I didn't bother to make extras.

Lovely wrapper, but it seems to only work consistently when I change my keyboard layout to US English (QWERTY), while I'm normally working in Belgian - AZERTY.
Are you sending raw commands which might be interpreted differently on my keyboard?

Hello Howard. Thank you for this wrapper. It miles better than the previous one I had from a different forum. :applaud: :applaud: I updated to 5.2 today and noticed something(it may have been in the earlier versions but, i may have not noticed) , it seems that hitting "R" rotates the screen in game and well "R" is what I have mapped as my start button on my CP by default in everything. It there a way I can edit that? if not, Its fine, if I hit start again it rotates back.

Thanks

Took some hardware adjustments on my PC, but it runs flawlessly now. This was very well done and I thank you for all the effort you put into this. On a side note, does anyone know what brand monitor Disney used in their cabs?

Thanks guys, it's nice to be appreciated.  :)

I forgot about that final release to fix the rotation issue along with a sanity check to see if your monitor is already rotated in hardware.  It's been a rough month so far.  I'm currently waiting for the DEP to say it's safe to drink water again in my region so I'll be up all night anyway.  I'll go ahead and see if I can get that last version out later tonight.

Thanks Howard_Casto, for those of us not running a QWERTY layout, but AZERTY, I'm using the following ahk script to fix the wrapper that fixes Fix it Felix...  :D

"
SetWorkingDir, C:\FIFJ5.3\
Run, C:\FIFJ5.3\FIFJ.exe
SetTimer process_watcher, 100
é::2

process_watcher:
   Process, WaitClose, FIFJ.exe
    Exitapp
Return
"

The only thing this does is make sure the press on the "2" key, which in AZERTYis the "é" key, is translated to 2 for the zoom function to work.
Adjust paths as necessary.

Would it be possible to add a pause feature?
If you are running the Hyperspin front end, the new HyperLaunch 3 has a new feature called Hyperpause which may be able to help you out.

Thank you!!!

This is very cool!

If you do decide to do any more enhancements, I had one request. I'm one of those 3 oddballs that runs (or will be running) my cab in Portrait mode. :) The built-in scaling using the Bezel Zooms works like a champ, but it's would be super cool to be able to adjust the positioning vertically. In my particular case, I'd like to shift the screen up a bit.

I just made some modifications to my bezel artwork in order to center it on my monitor, so all good for now!

Again thanks for putting this together! Much appreciated!

Hi,

it seems like I am the only person running into this but no matter what I start, settings.exe or FIFJ.exe a box pops up saying "Game Exe Missing! - Fix it Felix Jr. not found!"
How to fix it? Help me felix! Oh, uhm, I mean Howard_Casto?

Did you put the game in the same folder as the wrapper?  It won't do to just download the wrapper and run that by itself.

You need to also download the game itself -- this is just a wrapper to launch and adjust the original disney leaked version of the game and you need that download - should be able to find it if you search for it. (we're not able to provide links here since it is like the game roms - OK to talk about but not OK to provide links to download) :dunno

Oh, sry, I misunderstood it. Thanks a lot :)

Changing the keys doesn't work for me :( It saves, shows my changes when reopening it but it doesn't change any controls ingame.
Second Problem: Escape doesn't really end the game only turn the game window black and end fullscreen. I still have to click x to end felix. How to end it?
And I have no bezel, how did you get that one in (I read the Readme and have the file but it isn't shown)?

Does anybody know how to do that "superfix" where Felix spins around and fixes everything?

You have to eat a second pie while still flashing from the first and the do the dragon punch combo from SFII. Simple.

You are kidding, right? Or is it not possible in the game? That move is shown in the movie.

I do not see a link??
Enjoy!

I don't want those questions to be overread. I hope this is not too pushy.

*sigh*

If this were a huge thread I could see this question, but it's only two pages long.  Go to the first page, read what Denhomer posted.

This is a 'Merican wrapper for a 'Merican game based on a 'Merican film.  So you need a US keyboard or equivalent.  Changing your region settings might fix it, I don't know, but there isn't a whole lot I can do save loading up the game in every single region and finding the equivalent keycodes for each one, which I'm not doing.

OK, sorry for that and thanks a lot for your answer. I guess this would break my other games. Is there any chance to get the source to try to fix that myself? I thought this would only change the codes from the controls and not the functionality of the whole thing.

Sure I'll post the source to anyone that wants it.  It's just doubtful anyone is still running visual basic 6 at this point.  ;)

So post it to me please. I am not sure if I can get it to work with other languages but sure I will give it a try(will have no time until the middle of next week).

Ok, but be warned, the wrapper is kludged together from pieces of Troubleshooter 2 and some examples I found on the net.  The source is by no means pretty or easy to follow.

People seem awful demanding of something I considered a side project and maybe spent an afternoon's worth of time on total.

Thanks a lot. I had a look into it but I didn't find out what the problem is yet, dunno if I will. No keycodes are hardcoded and all keycodes are recognized and saved in the settings. For the games they are read out from the same file without looking into any keymap/language settings from the operating system or whatsoever. Perhaps this is an issue with one of the visual basic functions used but really I don't know. Never was much into VB either sadly :(

Just to let you know don't think you showed it for nothing and still thanks for the work anyways Howard!

If I find anything in the future, I will post it here.

thanks very much for all your hard work on this howard.

I just have one question. I have it set to full screen and the bezel takes up the left and right of the screen like in your preview video but the game when it loads doesn't take up the rest of the screen like it does in your video preview. for the life of me I can't get that to work after playing with all the settings. Any ideas as it's very frustrating???

About 50% of the time it is opening windowed instead of full screen. Is there a settings

Does anybody know how to configure this in Mala frontend?  I've assigned it to other emulator and pointed the roms to my folder that has the exe in it, I've got a marquee, but I'm guessing that should be named the same as the exe file huh?  Anyway the upshot of it is that I can't find the game in the list of games, so i've quite clearly done something wrong.

I just made a separate folder for that games .exe and all associated files. All artwork(snaps, marquee, etc...) has to have the same name for MALA to pick it up. I made separate folders for snap and marquee as well.

I don't know if this is useful, but here are a few shots of the config and end result

Hope that helps somehow.   Good luck. Howard's done some sweet business with this.  :notworthy:

Thanks, that's awesome.  I'll have a look at this later.  I'd not seen these photos, should help a great deal.

@Howard_Casto: Some quick question about your wrapper:
  • For some reason I feel like the button inputs are laggy. (EDIT: I loaded it up to see if I could get more details on this. It's not an issues with Felix's movement, just his fix and jump keys. Something else that is wrong for some reason is that when held, he will repeatedly fix or jump depending on what key is held. I hope this sheds some light into the issue I've found.) Has anyone else reported this?
  • I was wondering what tool you were using to look at the code ( I was using ollydbg)?
  • When I have the settings set to horizontal rotation and 100% zoom, the pixels aren't rendered correctly. You had mentioned that you run this in 1024x768, is that required (my lappy runs at 1366x768)?
  • You had mentioned you were looking for the 5000 points to extra life, are you still looking for the memory address? Was there anything else you wanted to have feature wise I can help with?
Love the work you've done thus far! I'd like to link your wrapper to the hyperspin forum where I've gathered other data about the game, if that's all right with you of course.

You probably are using and keyboard or keyboard encoder and have the buttons held down.  Notice what happens in notepad when you hold a key down.  ;)  If you turn the key repeat off for that particular keyboard it should fix it.  It's entirely possible there might be a delay though if you have a system with lower resources or a lot of things are running in the background.  I'm sending the keys via direct memory writes afterall.

I'm using cheat engine.  I search for memory addresses as the game is running and any code I look through is pure assembly via cheat engine's interpreter.  In all honesty though the game is butt simple, so looking through code isn't particularly necessary to alter things.

You would have to take a snapshot for me to tell what is going on, but the answer is no, there aren't any resolution limitations (although just by the way the game is made, it does seem to have trouble with really low resolutions).

Yes I never found the 1up counter, but honestly I'm on other projects atm.  If you want to look for it knock yourself out though.... I'm just not sure when I'll get around to implementing it.

Again feel free, but you might want to make it clear that I'm not a member of the hyperspin forums, I don't visit them and if someone asks me for help over there they are essentially talking to themselves.  ;)

There's already a thread there dedicated to this wrapper (that's actually where I first discovered it). I've also requested (twice) that it be added to the list of modifications in the official Fix it Felix Jr. thread and was pretty much ignored.

Hopefully you have better luck then me  :P

Don't get me wrong, there are some great, super-helpful people over on the HS forums but I've found most of them just dole out elitist snobbery when you ask questions or try to share anything other than new artwork and themes.

I found w hyper spin that you have to pay 45$ to get the gold forum for all the hard questions answered.   I needed helpwwith a game(contra evulotion) and also once wanted a custom arcade wheel XML with all arcade mame, taito, Naomi all in one.  When I pmed someone on there they directed me to the ftp and a forum post for gold members.  have not paid bc have emumovies acct and dont need much more but seemed like easy questions.  Should have posted them here.

Sorry to go off topic Howard.  Great wrapper.

If you still need help with Contra Evolution, Naomi etc. let me know (in another thread or PM so we don't further detail this one), I recently finished a full setup running Demul and TTX among other things.

Hi everyone,

I recently updated my computer and I was setting up my Felix game. I am getting strange lines around the text and characters when I load it up that I never had before. It looks like thin lines around text and Wreck it Ralph. Sometimes when I change the Bezel percentage it goes away, but I cant seem to lock down on anything. Any ideas?

We would need a snapshot to be certain, but it sounds like it's just scaling badly.  Strange artifacts are usually a symptom of scaling to a non-integer scale.  If you can post some pics maybe I can confirm, but as of now I'm unsure how to fix something like that without more info.

I'm a little ill right now, but I'll do my best.

Notice where it seems to draw a line where the end of the texture block is?  That is typically a scaling problem.  The solution, unfortunately isn't always clear cut.  There is a long-standing error in d3d that can cause similar errors in certain scaling situations.  It has to do with rounding errors during the blending process so the first thing you might want to try is to ensure anti-aliasing and all of that stuff is turned off in your video card settings.  If that doesn't work then it could be the game itself and it's crude scaling not liking your monitor resolution.  Play with the bezel settings as you mentioned before.  You can probably get away with an imperceptible scale change and it'll be just enough as the errors seem to only be one pixel high.  You can also change the desktop resolution prior to launch of course... that might help as well.

Now all of that being said, I have also seen similar render errors on an old ati card.  The problem was a combination of being underpowered (needed a bigger power supply) and having wonky drivers.  How it would do me is the first thing loaded would have render errors.  If I exited the game and started it up again, the errors would be gone.  If the artifacts you are seeing are intermittent like that then it's probably a video card issue.

Thanks for the distraction man... I really needed it today.

Sorry to hear you're under the weather. I have another distraction for you. Yes, you were right, the anti-aliasing on my Nvidia was ON, so turned it off and voila, no artifacts. The issue I have now is with your latest updated FIFJ, I cant seem to get the game to center top to bottom on my screen. My monitor is set at 1360x768. About two versions ago I had no issues whatsoever, but now I cant seem to change this (see pic)

The game is centered, but smaller than my window. It used to be able to block the white in the middle from top to bottom. I changed the ms from 50 to 200, but nothing seems to be doing it. I also noticed that if I change the cfg. file instead of using the settings.exe, the changes stay put. Any ideas? Take your time to reply, if the Nyquil hasnt knocked you out yet. Not the end of the world if I dont get it running today. Thanks again!

See the "delay for resize" option?  Make that higher.  It looks like it's scaling fine but it's moving the window before the game fully loads (and the game moves itself at one point).

I tried running Fixed it Felix full-screen on an vertically-oriented 1280x1024 LCD with the bezel disabled and found that the screen is still being shifted down and to the right as if the bezel was still being shown. Is there something else I need to do to just get the game to fill the screen?

Thanks!

This thread may be of use to you, sounds like a problem a couple others are having. If it is the same issue, it's not Howard's wrapper causing the problem. At this point, nobody seems sure. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,140671.0.html

Quick update.  I figured out how to make this work.  I wrote a batch file that would rotate the Windows desktop using iRotate's command line parameters, launch FIFJ rotated, then rotate windows back via iRotate.  It worked GREAT!

Howard gave me the idea and I want to thank him for it!

IF you mean the wrapper - Go Here (howards site) http://dragonking.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?category=16 - then on the right hand side of the screen scroll down to Fix it Felix Jr and click on (I) Fix(ed)-it Felix Jr. 5.3 and the download screen will come up.

If you mean the Fix it felix rom download - we can't supply links to Roms on this site so you'll have to check Google for that.

That's the exact problem I'm having (see other thread).  Howard has an idea that might "fix" the issue that he's going to look into.

Has Howard made any progress on a fix for this issue? I referred to the other thread referenced above. Based on suggestions in that thread, I was able to get FFJ to appear full-screen without the offset when the zoom was set to 200%. However, when doing so, the game slowed to a crawl.

I can run the stock EXEs with full-screen enabled and the game fills the screen and runs at full screen. However, in doing so, I am still limited to the stock behavior (alternate keys, no high score save, etc.).

I really hope a fix for this can be found as I'd like it to be one of the showcase games of my MAME cab.

Thanks for the great work and all the help that I've gotten thus far.

Yeah I don't think Howard is fixing anything at the moment unless you're in direct contact with him considering he flamed out two months ago and hasn't been back since.

Sorry I haven't been able to check back on this thread in a while.  I got mine to work.  What I ended up doing was running a batch file and using iRotate.  My batch file rotates windows back to landscape, then launches FIFJR which is set to run rotated vertically.  When I exit FIFJR, the batch file completes by rotating Windows back to portrait.  Works perfectly!

Just an FYI, this will run under linux with Wine as long as you install the VC++2008 component.
however it doesn't play nice at all with my dual display catalyst driver.
It runs ok in either orientation but when I quit it disables one monitor & leave the other monitor (1080p TV) at 640x480.

I'll try it out on one of my linux test machines that normally is set at 640x480 and only has one monitor that a 4:3.

There's no official Disney version of this game on Steam? If not, it just seems like Disney doesn't like money.

Just a very late note that this game/wrapper does not seem to work with the Xin-Mo joystick encoder, it does not detect it.

I even tried to use x360ce to trick it but no luck there either.

I wanted to make people aware of an issue I found while playing this on windows 10.  Win 10 must have done something with hotkeys and window manipulation, because the wrapper doesn't work properly.... the window doesn't resize and the game doesn't exit.  My guess is windows 8 has the same issue (I was running win 7).

Luckily there is an easy fix.

Now you should be good to go.

It's been a while but IIRC had the same problem with the Zero Delay encoder (The wrapper shows an error "no Joystick found") -- I use JoytoKey and assign the keys to those that are configured in the wrapper (ie. up arrow for up etc.) and it works fine - then just make a quick batch file that opens joy2key and then launches the wrapper - http://joytokey.net/en/ ( i think that is what I did and it worked fine)

Hi Howard.  First up thanks for your awesome work on this wrapper!

The wrapper works fine for me with my windows desktop in normal mode, however I want to run this on my cab which has a vertical screen and the windows desktop setup vertically all the time (1024x1280 resolution).  The wrapper works fine but the game is shifted to the right so part of it is cut off?  Is there a simple fix for this or have I missed something?

EDIT:  Ok, I see others have had this issue and it looks like a problem with the program itself.  Bummer.  I'll look at either changing my screen to normal orientation or using irotate.

Howard,
Thanks for all your hard work putting this together. I gave my children a fix it Felix arcade game last year for their birthday and the hard drive that ran the game has failed. The computer that was running the system was using windows xp. I had another computer that uses xp and  I transferred the game to the new computer. The new computer recognizes the xin-mo joystick but when the game is started a message "no joystick attached." pops up and will Not function with the game. I am not very tech savvy and I was hoping you would be so kind to help me correct this. Thanks

Hoping for a little help with a small issue running this from Hyperspin.  Everything seems to be great except that when I exit FIFJR, it does not go back to Hyperspin.  I have to alt-tab to get back to the wheels.  Any idea of a possible fix?

Is it exiting fine outside of hyperspin?

Is it exiting fine within hyperlaunchHQ?

Depending if you’re running an older version of hyperspin...
You might have to write a script that looks for the escape key that will force hyperspin back in to focus...

I don’t have time to help troubleshoot, but these are just thoughts I process when I have your same issue with anything else
Games: Super Punch Out, Fix It Felix Jr, DK, DKjr, DK3, PC10, UMK3, TRON, MS-Pac, Pac, Centipede (2x), Robotron, Galaga, Space Invaders, Street Fighter 2 CE, X-Men vs SF, BuckHunter HD, 2X Custom Vewlix, Custom Nintendo VS 3/4, Atomiswave

It exits fine, but Hyperspin is not in focus after exiting.  I have to either click the mouse or alt-tab.  Any way to force Hyperspin back into focus?  I set RocketLauncher to Restore and Click for my front-end (which I have never had to do with other emulators), but it does not seem to be working.

EDIT: Added it to MAME wheel now run with PCLauncher.  Exiting back to Hyperspin fine now.  Thanks for this game.  Fun addition.

I know this is going to sound insane considering this hasnt been updated in a while but im hoping you can accept one more feature request.

I am building a dedicated fix it felix. Is there any way you can add a feature to shut down the pc after you exit FIF using the keyboard key you assign in the button config? I've tried using a few scripts that are available online to monitor apps and shut down but none of them seem to work.

Wire a button directly to your pc to shut it down, I do it all the time, works great

Especially on a dedicated pc game, easy enough to solder leads to the power button pins and hook up a button

I'm trying to DL Harry's wrapper but the link on his site isn't working.  Neither is the contact form on his site.  he posted on it in Feb 2018 so he's got to still be around.  I hate bothering him but I'm going to try messaging him here.

Can anyone know where I can get it?

thanks

I'm trying to DL Harry's wrapper but the link on his site isn't working.  Neither is the contact form on his site.  he posted on it in Feb 2018 so he's got to still be around.  I hate bothering him but I'm going to try messaging him here.

Can anyone know where I can get it?

thanks

Seems the file has been moved or is missing -- I uploaded a copy of v5.3 I had downloaded awhile back to my dropbox - Link ( https://www.dropbox.com/s/u4attnlpvl9z5c5/FIFJ5.3.zip?dl=0 )

Let me know if you have any problems downloading it.

Hello,

what a wonderful job, really congrats.
I added the game on my new cabinet. The cabinet is working with hyperspin and hyperlauncher hq.

I tried to manage the controls buttons with your setting app, but none of my joystick is recognized.

However, when i launch the game with hyperspin, i can move felix with my right joystick (not the left) and jump with one button of my right joystick and left joystick. It's a bit messy. No problems with the keyboard...

As it's an arcade cabinet, what would you suggest to setup correctly the conrollers for this game. hyperlaunch hq?
Please i am not an expert. Thanks a lot if you can help.

I would need to know more about the encoders you are using and how they are hooked up, but it sounds like you just need to run the config and change the joystick #.

I tried every # joystick. It says no joystick attached.
I am using hyperspin with hyperlauncher hq and xpadder.

When i launched the game, its not the joystick left working but the right.
For the buttons, it’s the button of the joystick left working not the right.

I really dont understand

I tried many things.
What do i have to do?
It’s an arcade cabinet with hyperspin.

I don't know what to tell you man.  If the joystick isn't being recognized then it could be the joystick.  Again, you haven't told me the encoder you are using or anything.

Pclauncher under hyperlaunch.

Is that not good?

I tried in normal without hyperlaunch.
Same issue.

You're talking about software.  He's asking about hardware.

The wires from the joystick and buttons go to a PCB (the encoder) that converts the microswitch presses into USB data.

What type of encoder PCB do you have?

I-Pac?

ZD?

Xin-Mo?

Some other encoder?
(post a pic and we'll help you identify it)

Sounds like it might be a keyboard hack - so is not registering as a joystick at all but key presses - Perhaps try going into the settings menu and set the various settings under the keyboard section instead of trying to set it up as a joystick !

hello JDFanc, thanks for your help.

i am not sure to understand what you said.
You are asking me to go to settings and keyboard and try pressing joystick there?

Is that right?

If yes, nothing happened.

Do you have "force polling" turned on?  Some oddball joysticks require it.  Also directx8 and the direct input 8 vb dll need to be installed and registered.  The directx4vb installer is available in the "misc downloads" section of my website, which will install the vb dll for you if you follow the instructions.

Also you mentioned you are using xpadder.  If you are using that then your joystick is showing up as a keyboard during play and thus you shouldn't be messing with joystick settings and should be using whatever keyboard settings you have setup in xpadder.  Since xpadder probably isn't running while you are setting up the wrapper, you'll need to press the appropriate keys on your keyboard manually to set things up.

Long story short, pick one.... either use xpadder and setup the game via keyboard keys or don't and use the joystick settings.

I just checked on my pc under windows 7.
I have directx11 installed.

You asked me to install directx8 and direct input 8vb, will it replace directx11?

Also, you sent me a link for dirextx4vb, what’s the connexion between this download and directx8.

Sorry i am lost and don’t want to do any mistakes.

Direct x versions don't overwrite each other you are fine.

read it as "directx for vb"  it's not directx 4.  ;)

You are my hero.

Thanks a lot. It’s working. Just a glitch with one button who exit the game instead of doing something else.
Dont know why but it’s working overall.

I hope i didnt touch anything for the rest of my games and my setup.

Wonderful help.
Again thanks.

Has anyone been able to get a joystick connected using a zero-delay USB encoder working with the wrapper? I've tried every numbered joystick but no luck :(

Have you tried using JoyToKey ? ( https://joytokey.net/en/ )

It translates the joystick inputs into keyboard inputs for the game ( IIRC I had to use it with the zd encoder - but it's been awhile since I set it up )

Beautiful Work on this wrapper, however i have a question that i have not seen addressed yet, which has to do with the high score saving feature.
I am running this on my FIFJ cabinet with windows xp on an ssd drive, i have disabled swap which allows me to just shut down the machine and have never had any windows issues.
I installed your wrapper, and i did notice that your wrapper allowed the high score to now go above 15000, which is great.
However if i shut down the cabinet by just turning it off, which turns off the computer as if you had pulled the power from the power supply.
When i bring it back up , i noticed that the high scores did not remain saved in the game.
I noticed  that i have to exit the game properly in order to have the high scores be retained, is there any way to have the high scores remain once they get input into the game, without having to properly exit.

Many Thanks Once again.

Nope.  I'm manually saving the hi scores.  The only way to do that safely is to do it after the game shuts down.  If I get a chance I can look into adding shutdown detection.

JoyToKey worked like magic!...I think. I'm assuming that the movement in the game requires a player to keep pressing a key/move the joystick back to center and then to the direction again? (unlike Donkey Kong where you just hold a direction and jumpman runs).

I do have one remaining issue. I run my monitor in 1024 x 1280 (vertical). When I try to use the fullscreen support option in the wrapper it flips to 640x480 and cuts off the right side of the game (instead of 480x640) but the game does render in the correct orientation. I've been able to work around this by just using the 200% render option. Anyone else have the 640x480 issue? (I'm not ruling out that it could be simply a junky LCD monitor)

checked the high score , and found a problem with it, we got to 37200, and then exited the game, it saved it fine as you mentioned, but we noticed as more high scores got put on, they would not show up in order, and what was even weirder it that now it does not even show the high score initials for the guy that got the high score, the high score remains in the middle top of the game, but the initials get wiped out and the positions get jumbled as new high scores are added on. Is there a way to fix this?

Sorry, at work right now so can't look, but isn't the hiscore just saved in a text file? Couldn't you just clear out that file and go from there? Probably create a backup first...

The issue isn't that you can wipe it out, the issue is that the high scores get jumbled up, so for example normal high score tables are like this

ras 10000
jbe 9000
ghe 8000
jkd 7000
edg 6000

However when I use the wrapper , if you keep getting high scores it does this

rft 12000
dft 8500
uhj 6360
ras 10000
jbe 9000

it keeps pushing the top scores down, till there completely gone, yet the highest score still remains constantly on game screen in the top middle, even when it is not longer in the high score table, because it has been pushed way down.

Hi,
First of all I would like to thank Howard for his hard work, creating the Fix It Felix Jr. wrapper.

So to the point. I have been working on an arcade cabinet with this game and have installed your wrapper, which have been working great.
Now it seems like some kind of license nag effect is making things harder! When I start the wrapper, the game keeps rotating?!? any ideas why this happens?
I have tested it on both Windows 7 and Windows 10. both worked fine about a month ago, but now they both have this issue.
Strange thing is both machine have not been powered up for about three weeks.

If I run the original Disney version without the wrapper, it works perfectly.

Hope someone can help me. I'm pulling my hair out :(

It does make the game a bit harder to play when the screen is rotating like that !

Hi everyone, first time posting!  I'm building my first vertical cabinet with Howard's Fix(ed) it Felix Jr. and MAME.  Since I'm running my monitor on a vertical configuration I'm having the known issue mentioned above where FiF will not run centered when in full screen mode.  It sounded like Howard and jeffsgames came up with a batch file using iRotate to shift the orientation of the display prior to running FiF and then having it switch back upon exiting so it went back to a vertical alignment.  I feel like an idiot but I've never had experience with writing batch files, let alone one that is opening separate applications and running commands on another.  Could anyone who has done this share what something would look like?  It sounded like Jeff figured it out but it doesn't appear he's been active in a while.  He wrote "My batch file rotates windows back to landscape, then launches FIFJR which is set to run rotated vertically.  When I exit FIFJR, the batch file completes by rotating Windows back to portrait."  Can anyone help me?!

BTW, I'm using Maximus Arcade as my Frontend on a Windows10 Machine.

Thank you!

Coming to you live from 2021... hoping someone remembers anything about their setup...

I have the game installed and running perfectly and rotating to fill a vertically mounted monitor. Keyboard controls all work. However, I am trying to get this working with the zero delay encoder on an arcade cabinet. Several had mentioned that they used joytokey to get these types of encoders to work. Using joytokey, I am able to type in notepad++ and other applications. Every movement of the joystick and press of buttons register. However, even after setting joytokey to the controls in the configuration, no button presses register in game. I even sprang $10 to try xpadder to no avail. Like joytokey, everything registers in other programs. I was wondering if anyone on here remembered how they got joytokey to work. I'm running all of this on a Windows 10 machine with a clean install of the OS and files.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you running the software through a front end? If so, try just running it natively and see if that makes a difference (sometimes frontends can "steal" inputs). Try running FFJr WITHOUT the wrapper, just to eliminate variables. If either of those things work, that'll at least tell you where the problem is.

Just finishing my cabinet build, i've totally redone the sounds for the game beyond what i've seen available or done before to try to get it as "movie accurate" as i can and trying to get some final touches sorted. (the boot logo for windows is now ralphs head lol)

Just wondering though if its possible to turn OFF attract mode?

I don't think muting attract mode would be easy to do, as it uses all of the sounds from the DATA folder, it would be like trying to tell the game to not play any of those sounds, but to then just identify this as attract mode sounds..  :-\
But it could be possible to turn off attract mode perhaps just have the title screen show insert coin indefinitely until a coin is inserted?

One thing i've noticed as well, it only shows the "hey you've moved my stump!" scene in attract mode, instead of after you insert a coin and press start. it just cuts to ralph straight away.

i wonder if there is a way to add this scene to the intro when you start a game instead of it be only in attract mode....

my aim is to try and give it that same experience as seen in the film where you dont see an attract mode and insert coin and the attract mode scene happens after pressing start.
