Is Maximus still alive?

As per subject. Does anyone know if MA is still a piece of software that can be purchased with support. I dont think it is but not sure.

It can be purchased -- I'm not sure about the support part though - I believe support and development has stopped but they do still sell registration codes.

I'm a little confused.  I just looked at the website and the wiki and am not sure what, "exactly", is so special about Maximus.  It seems to be just another front-end for emulators.  Am I missing something here?

Nothing really special about it.   It works and easy to use for emulators that are supported.  Non supported emulators can be added if you give up other emulators such as the sinclair.   It is supposed to be getting a new life with an association with x-arcade but so far the support seems to still be lacking and a promised new version has not appeared.

To me, it's one of the least difficult front ends to configure and as far as animations and customizations go, it has its limitations.

Having spent numerous hours trying to sort Hyperspin, MA is a blessing. Problem with HS is that it has become very fragmented with the software, launcher and settings in different programs and unless youre a complete tech guru it's very fraustrating. MALA is good but the default format is crap and making a new one is a pain.  All the alternates arent that great either. MA is good because it is easy to set up and the default format is nice.
Sometimes I wish I still had my Sinclair ZX81.

I totally agree with this. Anyone who's been following my build thread knows just how troublesome HS was for me. Mala was ok, but i couldn't get it the way i wanted it to look.  Finaly the overall look and feel of the finished product and easy of use overshadowed some of the smaller things that Maximus lacks.

I'm happy i stuck with it.

Ive been using MA for a month now and it works well. It took me some time to figure things out but it seems to work very well and is so easy to configure. It's simple interface and layout is great and does the job. Not sure what's lacking since I don't use the other front ends.

A new experience for me: Blue screen of death when I try to play the video on maximus site. ( 3 year old windows7 PC )

Doesn't give you confidence in a software company when their website manages to break your PC.
On forums jimmer speaks for himself as a Defender fan, not as proprietor of www.jbgaming.co.uk  << Is that advertising or disclosure ? or both ?

Plays great on my Ubuntu machine, Windows 8 laptop, and Windows 7 PC.  I think I had a BSOD on my Win7 MAME cab with an ATI card/S-Video out.  Chalked it up to display issues over S-Video.  Did you try playing it in your cabinet, by chance?

At any rate, I have been using this FE since Mameseer ran the project, and it is my go-to front end.  You can go from 0 to fully functional in 5-10 mins if you have all your ROMs, emus, vids, etc. in place.  I'm very happy Mameseer sold it to the company that bought it.  Nice to see there is hope for newer versions!
My Machines:  Sega Top Skater | Vertical 25" JAMMA cabinet (Raiden Fighters II / 60-in-1 currently) |  Xevious (Restored)  |  3-Player MAME in a previously MA(i)MEd Beast Busters cab (In progress)  |  19" upright 2-player MAME cab w/light gun  |  Pac-Man Cocktail running MAME (built from scratch - no original harmed in the making) : http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=64599.0

Doesn't give me much confidence in a PC that can be broken by a non-malicious website.

I purchased it couple of days ago and haven't got an unlock code yet.  If anyone else has ordered recently how long did you have to wait?

Yeah, you should probably see what happened with your code.
Or maybe it's in your spam folder.

I've been using MA on trial for a week now in my vertical cabinet.
I like it. I couldn't quite get Mala to look great, Atomic FE looks terrible in vertical and HS is nice but its just too much. I just don't wanna use more resources for my frontend then most of my games need.

For me, MA seems to be a nice balance for my needs.
I hope there's no problem when I pay for an unlock code.
