Lighted artificial Christmas trees
« on: November 14, 2013, 01:21:23 am »
Our tree was pretty much on its last leg last year and it's time to finally buy a new one.  I've been checking out all the major stores in the hope of finding something a little more advanced than the same old plain white lights or lame constant blinking 4 color LEDs.  One can get on ebay and buy a huge roll of RGB LED strips and a controller for various patterns, fading, etc for next to nothing so I figured someone must have started selling such a thing in a tree, but I can't find anything!  Can anyone recommend something like this?  I've half tempted to build my own.

Well ahofle you can get one idea for a controller over here at this build.  I found this on ebay.  And the video can be found on youtube.  Or just reference below for the video.  Hope this is what you are looking for.

Yeah that's exactly what I mean, except pre-wired into a tree.  I guess it has to be a BYO solution.

You've gotta be careful about the strips.....  light strings look good on a tree.... those plastically rope lights... not so much.  Also there is a weight issue even on the artificial trees.

I just picked up a nice 4 foot multicoloured for $20.

I could not make one for that price.
