Losing controls when exiting emulator

So every now and then a game will go screwy upon exiting and I'll have to pull out the mouse, right click, and hit exit emulator. This is kind of strange on it's own, as the ESC button should be exiting, but sometimes it just sends me to a black screen and I have to use the mouse to get back to the games menu. Whenever I have to exit using the mouse, my buttons don't work anymore. I have to restart the computer, play around in the settings, and they will just randomly come back. I loaded up MAME in one of these situations and the controls worked fine, so it's something with Maximus Arcade. Any suggestions?

Hold down Esc longer, if it happens again press and hold esc, it's a known bug.

Try not using ESC to exit a game. Try using a different command, or better yet, a key/button combo. I use a simultaneous press of Player 1 and Player 2 to exit back to the game selection menu.
