Does the monitor in this game not have its own internal power supply and instead take voltage from the power supply? Either way I would recap the monitor. If the cap kits online are wrong then write down all the caps on your PCB and order a custom one.

I have a couple spare power supplies for these, not sure of their status though.

I intend to recap this monitor but I still have to get the game to work. The monitor runs off one of the +12V from the main game supply.

I found the cap kit here http://homearcade.org/BBBB/caps.html when I was looking for audio and video caps for a Donkey Kong cocktail cab.

My monitors do the exact same thing unless I let them warm up for 20 minutes or so.  I did cap kits on both, I recall that the kits were missing non-polarized 1uFs and substituted a wonky value for a high frequency cap.  I saw no improvement in either monitor after the kit.

A scrolling vertical distortion on your TV is likely a sync issue and not a board problem.  I will defer to Paige's opinion on that one.

I've got a complete harness with working boards and power supply I stripped out of the donor machine, and I'll try to measure voltages tomorrow.  We'll get you going.   :P

paigeoliver:

pbj, I know someone else who needs the boards if the original poster ends up not needing them. I gave a complete -boards machine to a guy who has been pretty good about doing favors for other guys.

Video problems normally originate on the monitor or with the wiring, not in the boards (in theory they can originate with the boards but in my experience they never do). I have probably 4 of those monitors sitting around right now.

I also tend to skip the non-polars myself as I haven't figured out which ones to stock yet, and it isn't all that strange to get a wonky sub for a big cap. Those are often just AC filters and could have been anything in a fairly wide range and a lot of the old games tended to use voltage and uF combos on the really big caps that are all but obsolete now.

Any word on the voltages? I am going to try to get a check in the mail for the cap kits this weekend.

I have contemplated rebuilding the power supply to whatever extent I can, but the +5 seems reasonable.
