Hi all!
Sega Monaco GP has yet to be emulated so I decided to write a simulator as I am a massive fan of the game. Monaco GP Remake (MGPr) is free, complete, highly configurable, and can be played with keyboard, mouse, joystick or a steering wheel. No arcade ROMs are required to run MGPr and the background artwork (As seen in the teaser trailers) is shipped with the package - So everything should work straight off the bat!
MGPr features 4 game modes:
Monaco GP (1979):
100% faithful to the 1979 "Monaco GP" arcade version.
Pro Monaco GP (1980):
100% faithful to the 1980 "Pro Monaco GP" arcade version.
Monaco Pursuit (2024):
Enhancement of the original arcade version.
Includes police cars, new roads, water levels, car damage, gridstart,
high score table, racing stats, check points and a goal line finish.
Monaco Stunt Park (2024):
Enhancement of the original arcade version.
This is a very long single track, looped. Its starts off easy and gets
increasingly more difficult as less time gets awarded with each lap and
opponents get faster. Features jumps, new tracks, water levels,
gridstart, pit lane, planes and new opponents.
Getting MGPr running should be as easy as:
1. Download the game package and unzip it into a folder of your choice.
2. Run the mgpr.exe (or mgpr.sh for Linux) file and choose the game configuration you want to play.
Default keys are LeftArrow = Steer left, RightArrow = Steer Right, A = Accelerate, S = Gear, 5 or 6 = Insert Coin, 1 = Start Button, TAB = In game configuration editor, R = Reset hiscores (Hold for 10 seconds during attract mode).
It is recommended that you read the release notes before running MGPr. The release notes describe installation, configuration and all the special features you should be aware of.
Each time I make a new version, I will update this post so that it contains a link to the latest version of the game!
