  • I'm a llama!
Hi Guys,

I have a non working sit down driving cab (Gaelco Tokyo Cop - I think the computer hard drive system is stuffed and I haven't been able to find a replacement) that I am thinking of either a MAME and other emulator driving cab or putting a ps3 or xbox in there.

The game doesn't have a shifter so can probably only play games that you can drive the car in automatic (or be set up for automatic) so what would be the best way for me to go here to use the steering, accelerator and brake with either a PC running mame and other emulators using hyperspin or putting a ps3 or xbox in there with console driving games?

Basically I'm after the easiest (and probably cheapest) option.

Any thoughts/opinions/help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

If you hack a Logitech G25 / 27 into it, you can run:

1) PC (MAME + tons of PC driving games and other emulators)
2) PS2 (via real hardware or PS2 emulator)
3) PS3
4) XBOX 360 can be done with an expensive adapter I think?  Not 100% sure on this one.

Check out this link: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/game-gear/articles/6475  (that's the "official" list - you can get a lot more to work with tweaks, hacks, keyboard emulation, etc)

PS4 and XBOXONE compatibility is unknown at this point - XBOX 360 can be done with an expensive adapter I think?

It all come down to money.  hehe  But given the choice between a single arcade game (repairing what you have back to factory) or modifying it with one or more of the above options...  I think the choice is pretty clear

It's a longshot, but since this was a PC based system, there's a slim chance it could be fairly plug and play.
What's the I/O board that goes to the steering wheel look like?
Does it connect via USB?
Does it say immersion on it anywhere? (mainly on one of the square chips)
If the answer to the last two are yes, then drivers exist to connect everything as is to a windows PC and you'll still have the FFB.
(not full motion if it's one of those Tokyo cops on a full motion base.  THOSE ARE FUN!)

If it's not an immersion interface, then you're probably looking at either doing some custom work to squeeze a PC wheel into the cabinet
or swapping out the potentiometers on the original wheel/pedals and using a PC wheel hack or U-HID interface.
Retaining force feedback with the latter is probably more involved than it sounds like you want to get into.

As far as the shifter goes, I'd try to squeeze a gear up/gear down shifter where the keypad is or swap in a steering wheel with buttons.
I wouldn't even consider a driving cab without a shifter.

I too woild try and get a g27 in there and find somewhere to mount the shifter.
This makes all the pc games plug and play and other emulated games work with a bit of minor tweaking.
Best of luck, let us know how you progress. Check out everyones cabinets from the sticky thread to get some ideas

I mounted my G-25 in my sega model 3 cab. It can be done!
