Happs Super Joystick Question
« on: June 19, 2002, 07:18:18 am »
I am about to begin building a control panel and would like a joystick that can be changed from 8-way to 4-way. On the happs super joystick web page it says "Change actuation to 4-way or 8-way simply by flipping actuator over" does this mean the joystick can't move to the diagonals in 4-way mode or does it mean the joystick won't register a response for diagonals in 4-way mode? Has anyone tried the T-Stik on the Ultimarc site? Many thanks.
???

The 4 way side of the actuator is smaller than the 8 way side, so when you flip it over it can only press one of the microswitch levers at a time. It still moves in a complete circle.

I currently use both Super and Competition at home....
and to switch the Super between 8 way and 4 way...
you need to take off that c shape clip at the end of the shaft, then flip the hourglass thing and put it back together... I did it once... but I cannot do it bare-handed... *** need some tools to do the job.... ***

Up to what I see... the Ultimarc J-stik and T-stik, you just turn the template or flip a switch (which means no tools needed....) I have not used it myself yet, but I'll order it soon and give it a try.... also, if you look back, there are a couple of other topics about this too you can look at.

so, if you're thinking about switching it back and forth, maybe Super is not the ideal one for you....

Have you thought about the restrictor plates from Oscar Controls?  From what I have heard they turn the 8-way joystick into a 4-way (even with real 4-way "feel").
