He left out the part where he did all that without asking me if I was interested first.  I'm happy it worked out in the end, though.

Dreamcast version is wonky.  Xbox version is Dark Legacy, though I have a custom set of secondary mapping on a Kade to play the Xbox version with six buttons and a joystick.  Admittedly I have not tried the PS2 version.  I purchased a N64 specifically to play this game in the 90s, but that system is long gone and I've yet to encounter an N64 emulator that plays anything properly.

Frankly, I'm excited we're finally on the cusp of cheap computers being able to run this ROM.  I have been waiting YEARS for this.

Well, I never said you were interested in it before I bought it. I bought it as part of a package and thought I'd hook you up. It was a risk free investment because if you didn't want it, I knew I wouldn't have a problem selling it. You said you didn't want it, and it sold less than 24 hours later. My point was you didn't want the actual arcade PCB , not the risk on buying one for you.

as for XBOX , Dark Legacy > Seven Sorrows

I have a spare N64 I can send ya, it lacks a controller and a video cable though (can use a SNES  or GC one)

EDIT: it also appears GL came out on PSX,  and PSX emulation is pretty much perfect. Go for that one

Played the mame version of Gauntlet Legends, not sure if that's the version you were inquiring about, but it ran with no issues.   Didn't see a setting to change the game quality (high, medium, etc)... but whatever it was, it ran it no problem, no slowdowns or anything.   I also played it as 2 players to see if it would cause it to slow at all, and it was all good.

hit F11 and check the %

A really brutal test on that game is just to make it through character selection and start in the mountain kingdom.

Malenko's got jokes but I've tested this game on a Core 2 Duo 3.16 GHz, I5 3.10 GHz, and I5 3.33 GHz and found the performance to be unacceptable.

No jokes or wit, I tested the system he's selling (the model  660 – 3.33 GHz ) and got through the select screen and a bit of the first level (playing on a keyboard sucks) ran between 93% and 100% you said it wasnt good enough.  I ordered up 4 of the modder systems, and I'll test it again with the model 2500 see if it makes a difference.

ok, had to configure the fps for f11 in my mame setup menu, then got it to display... but yeah, it won't work for pbj then, because it dips down to 80%-90% on the mountain.   The game plays fine, no lags or issues, but if it's perfection he's seeking, he needs to look for something other than a budget pc build.

Ok, so new day, new test.....

I have one of the modder pc's that I just got in last week from the OP and I got in the visontek r7 250 card yesterday (have a sapphire one in the basic pc), so installed that card in the modder pc and checked gauntlet legends again.   Very short dip at the selection page, less than a second it dipped to like 75%-80%, then right back up to 100%... then on the game play, 100% the entire time on the mountain, at times going to 105%.    Also noticed the cpu usage was lower on the modder pc (about 25% lower).    This is all with zero overclocking set on the video card, just the factory settings (same as the basic pc test earlier).

So looks like the modder pc was solid with the r7 250 card.

Want to thank everyone again for their continued support. Between the newborn, craziness at work, and just overall lack of rest/sleep, been trying to be as quick as I can in getting questions answered and parts out the door in a timely manner. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

Very little time lately to spend in the forums so again, please PM me any inquiries / order requests. Since I'll get e-mailed about those, rather then waiting on a time to check the thread.

HUGE props to those doing their testing and posting the results in the thread. Was hoping to have some details myself when looking at my projects. But anyone who's gone through the baby drill while in this hobby knows my projects are shelved until this little guy is less of a handfull.

Anyone still on the fence about a portable reach out. I have a surplus of these and would be willing to work with you if a little discount or added accessories can help getting these out of my way in storage.

As always, if interested in a trade for any arcade related goods, let me know what you are looking for vs what you are offering.

Ok, testing a "MODDER" with all the latest drivers and windows patches and this system has SIXTEEN GIGS OF RAM not 4.

Set up:
Modder with 16 GB RAM
Win 7 Pro 64 Bit
MAME .148 64 bit
Nothing else running in the background

ROCK SOLID 100% frame rate, never dropped, not even once.

Made my player, dicked around a little

got pretty far on a keyboard:

stumbled across a classic view mini game:

Finally, I somehow became a chicken:

I then ate a drumstick food item and it happened to be poisoned and I lost 50 health.

That was enough play testing at work.

Cool so looks like it was solid for both of us on the modder pc.    Mine only has 4gb though instead of 16gb, but still ran fine, even with the resource pig hyperspin running.

I've got a PM in to TKW already, but maybe someone can answer this faster: I know they come with Win7 pre-installed, but do the Modder systems come with a valid Win product key, or an OEM key sticker on the case?  He doesn't mention in the original post.

I've been saying it for some time that the i5-2500 (I have the K variant, but I'm running it stock) can handle anything that's currently capable of running at 100% in Mame.  The only area where it will choke is when you try to run multi-monitor games (Punch-Out, Ninja Warriors, etc.) with HLSL enabled.  Add a capable discreet GPU and that solves that problem.

This offer is worth it for the CPU alone, frankly.

I had GL running on an i5 3570 at %100 and %120 a few times. that CPU is just a tic faster than the modder PC you are all testing.

unfortunately it was a work PC so I couldn't take it home & the damn things cost so much.
These deals are great & since I plan to use a big 'ole CRT TV with component in i just need a pcie card with TV out and won't have to worry about scaling anything.

Just waiting for that tax return to come in....

Am thinking about jumping on a Modder.

Just a suggestion I think if you added a pic for each model it may be help full. Not that it maters to much for a build but it couldn't hurt.

Yup - responded via PM about the OEM stickers: Unless I otherwise tell anyone ordering  -  the OEM sticker on the case is the code I use when activating / updating / testing the machine. Most had a corporate client previously, so the stickers were never used. I'll provide an alternate if I had to use one, but it will still be an OEM code, single license to that machine.

I recommend Belarc Advisor for a program to pull any current info on a machine as discussed above. It's great for pulling all your current licenses, not just Microsoft's.

Got my modder yesterday and had a chance to mess with it today. Works great looking forward to transferring it to a new case and adding a bigger PSU and good graphics card my goal is to max out MKX and have all the mk games on one pc even the ps2 versions.

Got my gear the other day, haven't had a chance to put the desktops through the paces yet but typing this up from my Portable.  Really diggin' it, nice and snappy, clean, everything works nice, so assuming it doesn't spontaneously combust in the next hour or two, it's a fantastic deal.  It's becoming a general use work/school box so I don't have any fun stuff to test out, but I guess I have a moral obligation to benchmark GL on it now so we'll see :)  I dunno how many people are looking for these things for projects/builds, but def thumbs up for the unit at the price.

Thanks for the stuff! ...though I think our UPS guy hates me now.  The porch looked like a half-way done game of expensive Jenga.

Just wanted to thank all you guys posting reviews of this MODDER PC. It really made me feel confident on pulling the trigger, so you are really helping out the OP and potential buyers.

Can't wait to get mine in on monday. I had a couple questions if anyone is willing to help me out.

1- Can this run tekken tag? I would assume an r7 250 GPU would help with this, but i am new to MAME and was not sure

2- Would i need to up the PSU for that? And what Watt PSU comes with the modder?

3- Would i be able to run HLSL? And would i need a GPU for that. Again i assume it would definitely help.

4- And what version of MAME should i be using? The latest version .160?

My goals are to play mostly 2d games.
MK 1,2,3
SF 2 and third strike
2d beat em ups
Tekken 1,2,3 and tag
80's classics
And Blitz and MK4 would be a bonus.

Thanks again guys, really appreciate it

Joe

1. Yeah, you should have no problem running TTT, but you should understand that Mame only uses GPU for HLSL at this point. Everything else is on the CPU, which is why the 2500, with it's high IPC and multiple cores (yes, Mame does use multiple cores now with certain drivers...) is a great choice for Mame.

2. No idea yet as to what comes with the Modder, haven't rec'd mine yet. PSU requirements will of course vary based on your GPU, and I'm not familiar with the AMD options. Sorry!

3. For the vast majority of games, you should be able to run with HLSL no problem, even with just the onboard GPU of the 2500. (EDIT - I forgot to mention: you will likely need to fiddle with the various features within HLSL. Bloom effects will bog down this iGPU. I always forget I've turned that option off...)  That said, you will likely only run into significant issues when running multi-monitor games (Punch-Out, Ninja Warriors, etc.) while also having HLSL enabled (again, that's only if you're using the onboard graphics. Put a discreet GPU in there and HLSL isn't a problem.)

4. Personally, I'm at .155 because it's pretty stable and they haven't added anything tremendously exciting since then. Raiden II becoming playable was the most recent "big addition."

You should be well served with the Modder, based on the games you listed.

Thanks a bunch man, i appreciate the answers!

I definitely will pop an r7 250 in there at some point then, at 60-70 bucks seems to be worth it. Hopefully the PSU it comes with can handle it, i don't see why not. I would think even 300W PSU could handle this system.

Info on power requirements for GPUs: http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page362.htm

Looks like as long as you've got 300-350watts, you're probably fine. It's not like you're ever going to peg out both the CPU and GPU at the same time if all you're doing with the system is Mame. YMMV.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, and in pm, that video card will work fine in these pc's.   Myself and several friends have the r7 250 installed already and it works fine.   Feel free to ask again if it will work though.   The guys will start lumping you in with PBJ asking about Gauntlet Legends.  haha

The power supplies in these are not that high and those cards still work fine.   the 5450, 6450, r7 250, etc all work fine with power supplies lower than what the required listing for them is.

As I mentioned earlier, the 5450 and 6450 are slightly better than the onboard video, especially on the basic pc's with the slower cpu, but those two didn't run street fighter 4 at full speed.  The r7 250 did.   I wouldn't go any lower than that card if you're going to upgrade.   the 7750 should work fine as well, but is more expensive.

Dude, i made ONE post asking a few questions that i didn't PM you about and didn't see in the thread already. Which seemed to annoy you judging by your passive aggressive attitude and jab even though i was extremely polite with you. maybe i am reading to much into it, but since i am new here i don't know members personalities yet, so it's hard to tell whose serious and whose not.

Also i am reading everywhere that the recommended PSU is 300-350 for this GPU and you are saying it's okay to use less than that. I hope you can understand why i would want to double check with a second opinion on that one.
