I like this thread a lot.

I however would like to have seen your Cocktail renders not have the CP stick out further then the glass\top.....

Thanks!

It's one of two things. Either I haven't assembled the control panels properly (not inset enough) or it's an optical illusion. I'll check in the morning! (I do see what you mean, though.)

Yea it is an aesthetic thing that I hate seeing on cocktail cabinets. On the cocktail I made from scratch I had it so that the controls were at an angle and part of the joystick and first row of buttons were partially inside the main body.

Well, here's your answer.

From the image, the control panel is physically under the top, so I'm going to go with 'optical illusion'. The Midway plans I went from have a slight 'inset' in the bottom of the control panel sides, which seem to be the point that they attach to the body. Now, that being said, there is about 1/2" of control panel side that is protruding from the side, and that could be 'set in' more, into the side, to give the look you prefer...

...which is a very, very nice thing with this plan - it's certainly adaptable.

;)

Geez, I'd like to have only a small part of your talent with Solidworks...

I only tried once using Sketchup for the layout of the control panel of my future cabaret cab (guess from whom I'll get it...), and never was able to do anything..
I never understood all the logics behind CAD drawing.  Heck, I have talents elsewhere...

That mini-pin design you posted a few days ago is very tempting to say the least, but my wife wouldn't certainly agree for now...

Thanks! I've been dabbling with Sketchup for a couple of years, and recently moved into Solidworks. The last time I ever worked with CAD was on a piece of vellum paper in grade 7 drafting class. That being said, I recalled some of the basics, and looked to YouTube and Google for the rest.

I'm certainly no expert, but have considered trying my hand at a career move recently.

That mini-pin design you posted a few days ago is very tempting to say the least, but my wife wouldn't certainly agree for now...

Funny you mention that. I've got a 27" LCD in my full-size cab, and a spare 19" 4:3 LCD sitting around, so I actually designed around that... ..."just in case" it didn't sell.

;)

Thanks, but that's simply a different view of the same model. I actually didn't make any changes, other than the camera angle.

I love how this is going for you.

Me too! I'm excited to actually see the physical manifestation of the designs... ...soon!

I'd love to see the Nintendo inspired design.
Do you have one available to be seen in the GTA ? (I'm in Durham)

Also if purchased locally would you be selling plexi cut to size for marquee and bezel ?

Once I have the designs cut, I'd be happy to show you the Contender assembled. I'm in Ajax, so it's a nice, short drive (or possibly walk) I'm sure! I hadn't thought too much regarding the plexiglass, but it's not a bad idea. I'll see what the cost would be to get a sheet cut for the various models.

I don't know what's worse. The anonymousness of the abuse of power (changing my post, for those who didn't see the original post), the change itself, or the fact that I didn't get notification via email of the update.  Damn.

Rick that is awesome as I am in Ajax myself.
And Ajax is small so I'm sure your close.

I'd love to see one of these and possibly purchase one.

I'm so inspired by that Popeye in the other thread and think this would be amazing in my collection (all be I'm sure my wife would think otherwise!).

I can only speak for myself, but my skill set and tool set are limited , for me a more complete product would be ideal. So the plexi and even marquee/bezel retainers would be fantastic.

I know in the other thread a few pics exist as does a list of what would used, however detailed pics and description dont.

Thank you

Yup. Ajax is one of those cities you pass quickly when you're driving down the 401... In fact, I think even the sign says, "Now Entering & Leaving Ajax".

I'm sure your Wife would love it. ;) I'm pretty sure the prototype is already sold, but when you're ready, I'll place an order for yours!

Good news on that front. Because I've routed the channels, the plexi on both the marquee and bezel are integrated into the frame. That means no 'shadowing' from the lighting or screen on the sides, for a less obstructed view!

Just as an update, I've talked with the CNC shop, and they're still super busy this week, reorganizing their shop. They have, however, committed to a 'completion date' of Monday/Tuesday next week. I'll be delivering wood to them Friday! Cautiously EXCITED!

Good news, everyone!

I just returned from Home Depot, where I have placed and paid for the delivery order for the wood. I've confirmed with the CNC Shop that they are ready to accept the delivery, and they have confirmed that the cutting will be completed on Tuesday at the latest.

I haven't been following this closely lately... You actually ready for orders now?  For the price I'm more than likely to buy one.  I liked the titan, but wife said she liked Galaxy the best... (not that she'd rather I have either) hmmm...  Send me a PM with shipping (I'm in Oakville L6K2Z7).  As much as I wanted to make my first myself... just don't see myself having the time until after the new year.

  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Goofy Question and I have read the entire thread as well but is there an option for shipping to USA? reason I ask is your offering a selection at a very reasonable price (even in US dollars) and with shipping prices your showing for Canada it comes in well under anything that the US is offering currently without shipping...so what I am saying is if you aren't shipping to USa does anyone know of a seller/manufacturer of kits like this that are 120 bucks....?

Thanks in advance

Check Haruman's Thread here in the BST forum ( http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,130522.0.html ) -- he is in the US and his pricing includes shipping so very close to the same pricing (since IIRC Rick's reason for starting these sales was to provide similar units to Haruman's for the Canadian market since shipping from the US was outrageous !!)  :

Quote
Barstick: $85 Shipped!
Standard 4:3 1 player: $140 shipped!
MVS Inspired 4:3 1 player: $150 shipped!
Widescreen 2 player: $160 shipped!

Very true. There aren't (m)any other sources that I can find in Canada who are selling the cabinets, so I've been working to produce as many varying options as I can, at a fair price. I do also ship to the U.S., but it would definitely be advantageous to purchase from Haruman, as I guarantee the shipping costs on my units would be more.

Of course, he also doesn't presently sell pinball cabinets, so if you're looking for one of those, I'm your man. (Until macattack jumps in, of course.)

;)

I also assume Rick's prices are in loonies and not US dollars.

Correct, but the difference is negligible, as the exchange rate right now is very, very close. ($1.00 USD = 1.03065 CAD, as per xe.com.)

  • Oh no, he's holding power tools!
    • What I'm selling / looking for:
Not sure if this was asked already, but if not this would certainly be good info for anyone interested: What will be included in the bar-top kits? I'm assuming all the flat pack panels and not much else, but if including any hardware what will that consist of? Otherwise any recommendations on hardware? Also, if not including any plexi for the marquee and bezel, what dimensions would we need to cut/order from elsewhere?

I'm certainly interested in a contender with blank control/admin panels, but the plexi dimensions would be helpful for lining up any custom artwork I had in mind.

Can't wait for the eventual "parts are now cut" inventory picture.
