Woodgrain vinyl - Anyone know a good source?
nitz:
Planning an Atari cabaret inspired scratch build and am gathering together stuff I need. But I can't seem to find a good source for woodgrain vinyl for the sides.
I'm sure I spent over an hour googling and all I could find was Parts Express stuff which looks good but at 24" really isn't wide enough, plus an ebay seller with 36" wide stuff sold by the foot - but it would run me about $150 with shipping to get all I need which seems pretty steep to me.
I'm surprised that there doesn't appear to be a go to source for this in the community. What do people do if they're restoring a cabaret or a Frogger? :-\
I'm at the point where I'm trying to decide between getting the Parts Express stuff and trying to line it up super carefully to hide the seams as much as possible, or just forgetting it altogether and painting it black. But neither of those solutions is ideal, so I'm hoping someone knows of a source for this stuff.
BobA:
Use a wood grain laminate for a super strong finish.
Unstupid:
Use cabinet grade (A-1) prefinished plywood.
SlammedNiss:
Yea, if you're starting from scratch just use the real thing. I can check my catalogs, but 24" might be the widest wood grain comes in.
Monkeyvoodoo:
Was suggested to me to look at wood veneer. Could be an option.
