Has anybody ever done a rearview mirror?
« on: May 28, 2013, 01:14:06 pm »
Ok first check this out:

http://dx.com/p/3-5-car-vehicle-rearview-mirror-monitor-pal-ntsc-67509

It's a monitor built into a rear view mirror.

I was wondering if anybody has ever did a setup with a rear view mirror.  Mind you the biggest obstacle would be that most cockpits don't have any glass to mount it to, but still it would be interesting.

I know that if any of the mame games have a rear view, you can make artwork files that crop the screen, so you could crop around the mirror part of the screen and display that on your secondary monitor, which outputs to one of these guys.

It's probably too silly, but it was just a thought.

Have never seen it done and more trouble than it's worth IMO.

I have a program on my jukebox that magnifies an area you specify on one screen and displays it bigger on another screen.
That would probably work for this, but it in the end I don't think it is worth it.

I can see the sim guys flipping out if someone made working side mirrors.

The mini LCD behind a mirror finish might be a cool concept on a non-racing cab. I can't recall this ever being done, but make a control panel with a tinted or mirror finish, and mount LCDs on the underneath. Completely invisible when off.

Hrm....I might have to use that on my next build.

Vigo that one is on my list of to-dos, only with black plexi.  ;)

Dx.com sells generic side mirror glass to use with their led turn indicators, so if you wanted to do side mirrors you could pick that up and put a lcd screen behind it.  The sims have all kinds of crazy multi-monitor options as well, so it's probably possible.

So would you mount the rearview monitor in front of the main LCD monitor then?

What games actually support multiple monitors in the rearview sense?  (not just a wider main view).

Then I see it takes RCA inputs - that can become a mess to interface with a PC successfully (resolutions get funky)
