Opinions on my first cab? I am particularly proud of my CP design. Thanks.

Excellent work!  Love the integrated cup holders.  Have you had a problem with running your hand into the 'upper-deck'  during a round of Golden Tee yet?   Nice touch with the slide show.

re: golden tee, shuffleboard, bowling

Pardon my ignorance, but what is different about these games that I might hit the 'upper level?'

The pictures might not show it, put there is plenty of distance between the trackball/joysticks and the upper part.  I can't imagine ever hitting it....

As for the slide show, I generated it with the HTML slideshow generator that comes free in the Windows XP Powertoys from microsoft.  I actually just added a more advanced version with thumbnails.

Cool looking cabinet, where did you get the cupholders from?  I want something like that for mine, but I cannot find anything like it anywhere.  I was going to make them out of black pvc pipe...

Take a look at my cabinet.  See it's shelf.  People stub their fingers on that.  I plan on modifying it sometime.

And my shelf is thinner and about as close as yours.

RV, marine, trailer supply, van conversion accessorys, all those places will sell the cup holders. I bought a replacement one for my boat this summer.

Very nice cabinet, very clean and professional looking.

Pull out cup holders would be cool.  The large kind that can hold a 40.

As a follow-up for anyone considering a 2-tier arrangement like mine, I played a few bowling and golf games after reading this thread.  It's true, the shelf is a bit in the way for those games where you need to give the trackball a really fast, straight roll.

That said this is not a big problem for me because:

1) The games most often played on my cab are 80's classics that are not affected by the shelf.
2) IF you are aware of the risk of smashing your fingers you can pretty easily use your palm and push up on the ball rather than straight.

If you are building a cab because you can't wait to play hours of bowling and golf games, consider another design!

Wow!  I'll trade you screens.  :)

I designed mine to accomodate a 25" TV, but am still stuck with an 18" monitor at the moment.  That big screen of yours makes me green with envy.

Don't feel bad.  You wouldn't be green with envy if you saw my bank account after building this cab.... :-[

Anyway - I have just about finished the cab.  I will be adding pictures to the website soon.

Since taking the photos
  • I have added smoked safety glass in front of the monitor.  I swear it looks better than many 'real' arcade cab.  I am glad I didn't buy a Happ bezel.
  • I have settled on a patriotic theme and created the artwork
  • I have completed the lighting.

I will be posting the finished result soon.

Good graphics and layout.
