Dammit, if my Robotron mini wasn't acting up, I'd maybe attempt this. Though I don't think I have the mental or physical fortitude to play Robotron for more than 3 hours on one credit.

My high score is 26 million.  I can't imagine how long it would take to get 100M.  If I recall correctly I think I was at it for quite a few hours to get the 26 million.  Note if you try use the right version of the game.  The earlier ROM's rebooted at 256 levels.

Note if you try use the right version of the game.

Covered in the "Fine Print" section of the page.  Blue label roms are good!

This is only a fun "run what yah brung" kinda thing.  Patched Blue roms are superb.

At 26mil, why don't you jump into the competition.  all it takes is submitting a recorded video?  you might not be the top, but even being on the list is quite elite.  not many folks can do over 10 mil which is what 2.5hrs of grueling intensity.....

I think tournament mode is a better and more realistic test.

that is a TG thing. They still run it but no one can top John M/redelf.    I'm not affiliating this with any scoreboards.

First attempt is in the books- Mike K. made it to 44.6 million whereupon he rolled the lives at 256.

he was cruising at a 32k points per wave average for most of it.  was closer to 33k early on.

so 50,005,000 is the highest documented/verifiable/recorded score of Robotron ever.
And he officially earned the first Robotron Gauntlet Survivor shirt of the challenge.

No. EVery time you die offsets the clock. Especially as the game sometimes adds extra baddies when you come back.

Well I just broke a million in .148u4, at difficulty level 5.  At first, it was easier. Then it was harder, especially as the 'warp baddies into you' dealie has returned. Hmmm. It may be more accurate now, but things seem....slow....like how fast you and your shots move. The whole thing seems glacial in a way, like the video timing is weird. Like some of those early 80s cheapo games that never had any, Robo seems to have lost its sophistication.

last time i recently talked to Sean, they hadn't incorporated the changes we worked out for gameplay. you aren't playing with the same thing we tested.

UPDATE- just checked mamedev, they haven't incorporated Sean's latest work.  Here it is, though.  Make sure you have mame148 then copy this file as williams.c in \SRC\MAME\VIDEO then recompile mame.

http://www.robotron2084guidebook.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/mame-0148-williamsCfixed-SrcMameVideo1.c

It has even been play tested by Jeff H. who has a real machine and mame and capable of 30mil plus games.  His endorsement is "spot on."  I don't know why you would need it any more exact than that.  :)

Sean wrote that williams.c with the base 148 source code.  you might try a fresh 148 without the updates.
you renamed the downloaded file to williams.c then put it in the video folder, right?

Half a dozen folks have run that williams.c with 148 base source, so it works.

Okay, I extracted the src/mame/includes/williams.h file from 148 and copied it over my 148u4 source along with the src/mame/video/williams.c posted above and it compiles and works.  Thanks.

Need some marathoners to step up to the plate.

Lon M just tried a Joust marathon but ended just short of 100 million
