Push button PC power on. PLEASE RESPOND!!!!!
Jeromebechaz:
I might sound like a noob but I just cannot find the answer anywhere. I just want to know how to power on a PC with a push button. I know a little bit of general knowledge on computers. But no idea how to do this.
Please reply
Zeenon:
On most motherboards there is a header on the motherboard labeled PWR SW. It is usually grouped with a bank of pins on one corner of the board...PWR LED, RESET, HD LED, PWR SW, SPEAKER.
For my cab I created a 'Y' cable. One end went to the original power switch the other went to a push button on top of the cab.....both of those connected to the motherboard like the picture above. So I can either use the power button on the PC like normal or a push button on top of the cab.
If you just want to power the PC with a push button buy one of these:
Wire one slot to Common and the other to N/O (Normally Open) and attach to your motherboard in the place of the old power sw. I think radio shack sells the header and pins in one package.

thanks heaps!!!
that makes tots of sense, plus i dont have to destroy and existing wires haha
Zeenon:
Bring this to radio shack and show/tell them what you are trying to do:
You need to make two of these:
Label each one, #1 and #2.
Once you have those made, the left side connector in the above pic goes into one of these:
This end will goto the motherboard.
Now you should have 4 wires, take one from #1 and one from #2 and push them into one of these again:
This will goto the old PWR SW that was connected to the motherboard.
Do the same with the other #1 and #2 wires and connect this to your push button.

Even easier:

Snip the ends near the switch and wire to a button (or just use the button in the picture).
