List of PC games that support Force-feedback.

I've never found a definitive list.

I know the Test Drive Unlimited series supports force-feedback, as does the Trackmania series, but that's about it.  Start posting and I'll make a list.  Also specify if it's just rumble effects, or true force feedback.

Powerslide, an older game, but the FF was really top notch with it. As far as I know, the FF was truly calculated and not just canned effects. And there really weren't "walls" to prevent you from going wherever the heck you wanted (except at the extreme edges of the maps). Oh, and the sound was fully 5.1 compatible (at one point I had a full 5.1 sound system on my pc, and you could literally hear the cars approach from behind to the left and pass you.)

I found this list on wikipedia

Yeah I ran across that list, but it's by no means all-inclusive.

I guess I should add them though.

I had TOCA on my old windows 98 machine with the Microsoft sidewinder steering wheel, I'm not sure which TOCA it was but I was very impressed with the ffb back then.

Be wary of the really old games that supported wheels like the Microsoft Sidewinder and original Logitech Wingman Formula Force.  FFB worked in a completely different way back then.  Modern wheels won't work with those games and those wheels won't work with modern games.

Well much like the game, the FF is much to be desired... but it does support it.

I'll sticky this thread when we feel we have a comprehensive list.
Don't want to do it while there is still good discussion going on.
Sometimes the stickied threads are just ignored.  :P

Pretty sure there are at least a couple games on my cab that aren't on this list.
I'll check tonight.

It appears from some of the game lists that game-pad rumble support = force feed back.

That really skews the list, doesn't it.

Yes, it does unfortunately.  It's one of those deals where we  just have to try them all.  That is why I said to specify if the game just has rumble support or not.

That being said...if the game supports FF in any fashion (aka not just the new XInput protocol) you can get it work work with a wheel.  It might not be the most realistic effects in the world, but a constant force effect is a constant force effect regardless of what device it plays on.

The Logitech G27 will shake when it gets the rumble signal, my Logitech MOMO and older blue driving force do nothing.
Maybe we could add an asterisk to ones we know only have rumble?

Yeah, probably a good idea.  We need to make a list of games that are confirmed NOT to have force-feedback as well, but I figured that would be easier once we got this list filled out a little more.

In regards to incompatibility, I've been wondering if headkaze could help with that.  His vjoy program already fakes a joystick, if it could intercept FF signals as well..
There are only around 8 kinds of FF effects that direct input supports.... everything else is just a variant of those, if your device can play an effect or not depends on if it supports that particular effect style.  Half of them are optimized for wheels, the other half for flight sticks.  Rumble effects came after the protocol was designed, so it is usually faked via constant force to a particular motor.  So wheels that don't support rumble playback typically just don't support constant force and/or don't show up as compatible, which is easy to fix, if you have access to that stuff at a lower level.

I would imagine that the Logitech Profiler software murks up the water a bit more as well.

For instance - games like Outrun 2006 that do not support FFB - the profiler puts the wheel in "auto return to center mode" with what feels like a little FFB pushing against you.  If I didn't know it was the profiler software doing that, I'd think the game had a limited level of FFB.

Even if you close the Logitech Profiler - I think Windows(7) even does a little of that on its own with the G27 driver.

EDIT:  Here is a possible format we could use for game compatibilty....  http://www.steering-wheel-support.com/PS3/list-of-steering-wheel-compatible-games.php

Actually the problem with the Logitech stuff is in the case of spring return force, it saves it to the device.  So even if you close the profiler it will stay on if that's what you have it set to default.

Testing FF is really easy.  Just wreck... if the wheel does something then it has FF.  ;)

I looked at that list and honestly I'm not sure if it's the best fit.  Certainly we can expand the list to include control schemes, but for force-feedback it doesn't really add much.

I would be nice to get a list of all that's required to run a game, but one thing at a time I suppose.

I've found that most of my PC Need For Speed games only support the wheel, gas, and brake.  The shifter is almost never used.

http://www.logitech.com/en-us/game-gear/articles/6475

That list is games where the wheel just *works* with no additional config needed.  Although its old - because Dirt 3 works without any additional config as well.  (The list makes me want to buy a PS3 for my cabinet with backwards PS2 compatibility)

That is a list of "PC driving games supporting the six-speed  shifter, 900-degree steering, and force feedback of the Logitech G27 Racing Wheel"

Not really relevant to the discussion here.

Most wheels on the market only have a sequential shifter and don't rotate 900 degrees, so I can understand why the game devs wouldn't invest the time in supporting them unless it was for a sim.

Yeah it doesn't really specify if those games support FF, or just support the wheel.

Yeah it doesn't really specify if those games support FF, or just support the wheel.

It's a list of games that support ALL the features listed.
There are dozens more games that support the wheel, but not 900 degrees of rotation or 6 speed H shifter.

It's there to point out that features(which competing wheels don't have)  do have support in many games and are therefore worth paying for.

Trackmania supports FFB?  I'll have to check that out.

[rant mode on]

Trackmania has the most god awful excuse for "ffb" I have ever felt. To the point where I think Nadeo was just trolling us with their so called ffb support. Like Howard said, it is rudimentary rumble that is terribly implemented and doesn't even activate when it's supposed to(ie collisions with walls). In fact, the rumble is at its strongest when you drive over GRASS!!!! I have been yelling bitching and moaning to Hylis(Nadeo dev) to PLEASE put proper ffb support for steering wheels in the game for years. My pleas simply fall on deaf ears.

It's particuparly frustrating for me because Trackmania 2 Canyon is a GREAT arcade racer with exceptional graphic and nice "Sega-ish" arcade car physics and wonderful powerslides. But they encourage you to play with either a keyboard or gamepad, and if you try to argue against this silly philosophy that arcade games should all be played that way, and explain that you are old school and loved the arcade racers from the 80's/90's because they allowed you to play with a wheel and pedals, you'll get laughed right off the board.

Trackmania 2 is one of the biggest tragedies in arcade racing history, because they simply don't "get it". They don't want anyone asking for proper wheel support for their "keyboardy" game. It's sad.

[/rant mode off]

But getting back on topic, Howard given the nature of how bad the rumble support is in TM2, I don't suppose you could take a look at it one day and see what your grubby little paws can do to manipulate the rumble signal to improve it somewhat? :D

If I take on any more projects I'll never get finished.  I would be willing to work on trackmania if, as you said, the guys weren't such jerks about wanting to make the engine more flexible.  As-is the game isn't all that great with only a few nice tracks keeping it from being a total wash.

I've been searching around and the Unity Engine seems much more interesting to me.  If we could get a team of guys together I'd like to have a try at making a sega-style level on it.  The nice thing about the Unity engine is you can buy a commercial license rather cheaply, so if it looks promising we could release a full-fledged game!

Crazy Taxi (Dreamcast Collection for PC)
Crazy Taxi 3 (Dreamcast Collection for PC)

It sucks, but they do have FFB.
Not sure why I don't have Crazy Taxi 2.  ???

Ferrari Virtual Racing - Oddball free game, but I enjoy it because it has a training feature that shows you the good lines to follow in green and they turn red when you're going too fast.  It used to be on Ferrari's website for free until they licensed a retail game.  It's still out there on the web.

Volvo the Game - another oddball free game using the Simbin engine.  Not even sure that all the Simbin games are worth mentioning separately.
Check it out if you're considering purchasing any SimBin games.  They all use the same engine.  http://www.simbin.com/games/volvo-the-game/

I know I have 4x4 Hummer on the cab, but it wasn't in my front end.  Guess it either sucked or didn't integrate well.
I'll test it tomorrow.

Whoops... apparently it was recently released... my bad.

Tested 4x4 Hummer and it has ffb.
The game requires a mouse to navigate menus, so it isn't very cab friendly.
Also discovered that when in-car view, the mouse controls the camera like a first person shooter.  Interesting touch to an otherwise lousy game.

Man... I was going through the current list trying to update it with more recent sequels and most of them didn't get a PC release.  I fear that racing games are starting to fade from the PC much like Lightgun games did several years ago.

Racing games haven't really faded in popularity. But yes, there are less on the pc.

Since there aren't really any sim/racing ones like forza or gran turisimo for the pc,
most people just play them on the pc.

i've never owned a wheel or played a force feedback game. i just use a pad for the
pc, or keyboard. i own tons of racing games, mostly sega ones... i think i even have
the sega GT one for xbox and pc.

the pc games usually had better graphics, but then the dreamcast came out, and
the games look better sometimes.

i have sega rally 2 for pc and dreamcast, the pc does have higher resolution.

the last game i had for the pc was sega rally revo, which was way better than
the xbox 360 version, much higher resolutions and frame rates.

i don't play any racing games on the pc anymore, unless its through an emulator.

i only play on consoles. i still have to play sega rally 2006 (japan only) on my ps2
someday.

i will think about getting a wheel at some point, and maybe try out these
force feedback games. i've never liked the sensation in the arcades, which
is probably why i don't miss it in home games.
