Woodwork is almost done.
Next job is bezel and marquee.

Did used the bottom part from the tv, to secure the motherboard into the cab

Got e-mail that my order was send today, so the buttons and stick are coming soon  >:D
Now I got into the artwork to transform into vector art.

Bezel and marquee fits like a glove.
The back needed a lot of time to fit the audio/ video and Headphone plugs, but the outcome is very slick
Power-cable and buttons are done.

The last job to do are T-molding and placing the fans on the backdoor before I can finally do the paint job

This is looking out of sight!  Popeye is one of my all time favs and I'm always toying with getting one or building one.  You're doing it right for sure.  Can't wait to see more.

T-Molding and mdf primer done, so the bezel and marquee for the first time black.
Tomorrow it's time for the first ground color.

:notworthy:  ps: can somebody post a picture of the right color blue. I can print it and order the paint :notworthy:
I see a lot of different type of blue  :banghead: I don't have access to a original popeye or donkey kong cabinet

Hey there Superforg,

Hope this helps.  I did a little bit of searching and came up with this.

Here is the code for Nintendo Blue.

True Value Paint
Base: E25-D (Incano)

Interior Latex/Semi-gloss EZ Care

Colorant
D 2432
E 3436.5
V 31.5

It didn't help me much as the paint codes here in Japan are completely different, but it may help you.

Also most of the art that you will need for Popeye (if you don't already have it) is here.

http://vectorlib.free.fr/Popeye/

The only thing I could not find is the instruction sticker that goes on the black piece that holds the monitor glass.  Good luck and AWESOME work by the way.  These are a blast to build.  I had a lot of fun building the three that I did a few years ago.

I really like how you translated the full size design to the bartop form factor.  I also dig seeing xBoxes in cabs!
Nice work!

Thanks guys,

This must be the color  :notworthy:
I think it's Semi Gloss or Gloss?

I got a color number for a paint brand in Holland, so I check this out today and see if it's match with this one.

Thanks

Second ground color done.
Inside of the cab is all dark en finished.
Side and front are a little blue so that the 2 finish paint layers are smooth and slick

Tomorrow I do the filling part so everything is ready for black & blue  >:D

Great work.

If you made a kit out of this that could be easily made to accept various monitors, you'd sell a ton.

Or at least make your outline files downloadable for others to cut their own panels, I know I'd be interested in making one of these for a Popeye or even make a wide body Mario one.

I know you've already painted, but for others looking at this I myself went with Behr "liquid blue" on my DK and Popeye and it looks great.

Small update:

Black semi gloss is a pain in the A.. very slow till it's dry... never seen before   :banghead:
Hopefully tomorrow it's all nice and semi shiny, so I can start with the final 2 layers blue

This is my first time I use semi gloss, I always using Gloss.
If black is drying very bad, I finish hem with gloss

Bet there's some just itching to build mini fix it felix jr's if you release plans.

As you've softmodded are you keeping the dvd drive or ripping out the controller board? If you stick a modchip in it you can remove it and disable the startup flubber, of course if you have a 1.0-1.5 xbox you can TSOP it and have the benefits without the cost.

EDIT: sorry cant see spare ram chip points on the underside of the motherboard so think it's a 1.6 so TSOP not possibel.

http://www.jakobud.com/plan-list.php

Here you can pick the plans I used, you have to mod it to the size of you own stuff that you gonna use ...

Yip, I skip the dvd drive and use only the controller board.
Softmod worked like a charm, bigger harddrive and software Vision 2 running fine, so I'm ready to go

Tomorrow for the last time the color blue and then I'm finished with the paint job
Black is nice and shinny and got the xbox already installed.
Got some things lined up for the crt to fix wires who are to short now so I can fix this.

It was a hell of a job this paint adventure, glad that's almost done   :notworthy:

Now I understand why it's so difficult to catch the right blue color on camera!!!!

Finally, the painting is done, so today was installing the hardware.
That's always a nice and relax job to do.

Installed the 2 fans in the backdoor with a molex connector so it's easy to remove the door.
I used my old and clean " sound proof " black underpants for the speakergrill    :laugh2:

Everything went very well, till I started up the xbox........ it gave me a service screen    :banghead:
Anyone who knows what's going on there   ( solved: I read that I had to remove and insert the dvd cable and it worked    )

Edit: No go, after starting up again, it gave me the same screen with the 21 code.
Before I had the 09 code
My 40gb harddrive is now a 4 gb in the system and no games on it...
    :banghead:

tomorrow it's printing time   I print just to get the feeling it's a popeye cab, graphics conversion is in alpha stage

Good eye finding the nick in the IDE cable.  This is a good opportunity to upgrade to a 100 or 133 speed cable.  The Xbox has ATA100 but shipped with an ATA66 cable ???

What software are you running?

Superfrog, good to hear that you got it up and running!  Looking great.  I really like the shape of your cabinet.  I am now really regretting that I cut my Nintendo Bartops just before the bottom curve under the control panel.  Great work.

Thanks Sharpfork, I read about that.
I run Vision2-R2, but I have to wait till R3 because the games stretch out, so they don't fit into the screen.
Hope the update is coming along very soon.

Great what they did with Vision 2 ... Great piece of software for a old hardware like the Xbox    :notworthy:

I would have gone with a LCD TV or LCD monitor and a magic VGA adapter.  That way you can have it looking authentic with scanlines or without, with a thinner build.

Nice work you did there.   :applaud:
