Not really.  I can't speak for everyone, but I got my first video game console when I was 4ish.  I've gotten a new console every generation since then.  I honestly don't understand how anyone can leave gaming.  It's like saying.... "nope, no more reading for me"

I don't remember how old I was but it was definitely an Atari 2600 (woodgrain...not aluminum), with pacman included. Eventually had a dozen games for that. I guess i was about 6. ('85? or so) I don't think we got it new. I don't recall. Don't recall what happened to it either.

didn't get another game system till gameboy in the 90's. still got it to this day.

I was born in the 70s.  I missed the arcade heyday because it didn't extend out as far into the country as I lived.  Hell, not even gas stations extended out to there.  But I did have consoles and grew up console gaming, and then got into console repair/mods and collecting, then eventually into arcade games, and now I'm building myself a small arcade.  So it's not like I left.  I'm just having a ton of fun experiencing the machines from the golden arcade era now.

If there ain't nothin interesting.....like right now for me. Of course, I'm so busy playing with other things, I don't have time to read. But if I encountered something interesting (enough) I'd do it. But I *am* an exception. I'm passionate about love-making, it's possibly the thing I'm best at, and yet if the conditions aren't cricket - nope. No wood, even.

It didn't have to be a gap, so sorry for not being clear about that. I never left gaming either, but me and most people traded their old consoles when going for a next gen during the years. Of course, some kept the old an just add new ones, but not everyone had that kind of economy.
But still, now when you are older the financial situation might be that you can buy all those old systems again, which is exactly what I am doing. And I never bothered to get any 360, PS3 or later models and most of my PS2 games are "Arcade classics" etc =)
