Traditional LCD, LED-lit, or Plasma?

The subject has it -- is there any significant advantages/disadvantages between these three types of displays?

My gut is that LED-lit is probably worth it over traditional-lit LCDs -- as LED lifecycle is significantly longer than the bulbs used.

Is there any reason to consider plasma over LED/LCD? Am I over-estimating the importance of the LED backlight?

When I build my next project, it's something I'd ideally like to last for quite a while -- which is why I lean towards LED lit LCD.

Mental:

I just bought some NEC LED panels to try out and I'm liking them a lot. You have much finer control of the brightness and the blacks seem much blacker.

Plasma generally has better contrast/black levels than traditional LCD screens.  However, they are also more prone to burn-in.  Which for video games/arcade is bad if things are displayed in specific areas of the screen for extended periods (i.e. scores, etc).

Also it might be overthinking it.  Unless we're talking about a 50" in a high end game these things probably have a longer lifespan in terms of hours than the technology itself has.  It'll get upgraded before it fails in a cabinet.

I'm talking about a 40" or 42" in a cabinet personally -- right now I'm leaning towards getting an LED for the increased longevity.
