Horizontal games on Vertical monitor?
Richardgregory:
Hi all:
I'm a newbie in the world of MAME/Cabs - I have a cab that has an LCD in a vertical position - I don't have the room to get another cabinet with a horizontal monitor configuration to play horizontal screen design games.
What are my options if any that will proportionaly size the horizontal game to a vertical monitor without it looking terrible? Is it even possible.
This question I'm sure has been asked before, so my apologies!
Thanks

You can use the vertical screen for the horiz games. They get all out of sorts if you fill the whole screen but if you keep the aspect ratio they show up horiz on the vertical screen and look a bit small but are playable.
MTPPC:
There is a MAME setting that allows you to "maintain aspect ratio". Make sure that is true in the .ini file.

I've been thinking about this again since I have a 60-in-1 Multicade with a horizontal tube monitor. Pining for some horizontal games like Jungle Hunt, Rolling Thunder, Track 'N Field, and Green Beret / Rush 'n Attack but don't want to buy another cab. Also don't want to rig up a rotating screen. I can deal with a smaller overall screen area.
Here's an older post from BYOAC where a MAME PC was the recommended solution for playing horizontal games on a vertical 60-in-1 Multicade cab:

Anyone have video of a vertical cab playing horizontal games? Would love to see what it looks like.
