FWIW, I've been experimenting with a non-Capcom style 6 button layout like so (based on the Vewlix style layout): 1234 56 It's mainly for non-fighting games, so most games won't use the extra 5 and 6 buttons. But they are still there if needed, as the occational game uses them. I haven't found the 5 & 6 buttons get in the way at all of the top row. |

I guess we could do the PBJ method and map those games as 123 123 in MAME. --- End quote --- You're not really 'reaching' over in the same way you're not reaching over the 'Z' and 'A' when you type 'Q' on a keyboard. Your fingers arch over and it's not noticeable at all while you're playing (it's like the bottom row doesn't exist.) Again, this preference was based on how my buttons were laid out with relation to the joystick (joystick was along the center line of a 3x2 straight button layout). It's not a one-size-fits-all answer. On some panels, main buttons on bottom row may be better. And yes, the next panel/cab I make, I'm probably going to do the duplicate button method so that there's a 'choice' depending on the player's preference. |
