Max lines in PAL resolutions
« on: March 07, 2013, 11:35:42 am »
Hi.

What's the max lines we can get at 15 khz? Some PAL systems use 272p @50 hz lines, but in my setup the maximun number of lines I can get is 258p @50.080 hz with H9110 preset.

Cheers.

Welcome pakoman ;)

No way, there must be something wrong there. I can reach 288p@54 here with the H9110 settings. 300p@50 should  be achievable.

How are you testing this, on GroovyMAME or just with VMMaker? If it's GroovyMAME, please post a log (groovymame romname -v >romname.txt

Thanks  ;D

The same happens with Amiga PAL and I guess with every resolution at 50 hz above 258 lines, so for testing purposes I'm using Amstrad GX4000 (768x272@50).  Everything else (non PAL) I've tryed seems to run fine so far.

I can't test unsuported modes in Arcade_OSD, even unlocking them. When I hit enter nothing happens. With supported modes everything goes fine (even with the modes out of my monitor range). Even if I create a mode by modifying an existing usuported one in Arcade_OSD I can't test it either.

I added also the resolutions I'm testing to reslist.txt. I use WinXP Home SP2, 32bit GroovyUME.

I attach the logfile generated by this and vmmaker just in case:

C:\EMULADORES\GroovyUME>ume gx4000 -cart "D:\AMSTRAD\GX4000\Roms\Pang_(Ocean).zip" -v >Pang_(Ocean).txt

Are you booting with a PC monitor attached?? This may block some resolutions. Always boot with only the CRT attached.

I can't see any resolution above 258 lines, can you paste your modeline.txt file?

Yes, I was booting with a LCD PC monitor and then changing cables as needed. Booted with CRT attached and worked fine, problem solved, thankyou :)

If you still need to check my modeline.txt for developing, bug free, etc say and I post it, if it was just for help me, problem solved.

In the other hand I don't want to boot at 31khz to avoid damaging the monitor, but if I use a real arcadevga windows gets blank screen, so I was thinking if I flash the 9250 I'm using into arcadevga and edit the IDs of the bios to match the name of the original 9250, should it work without the need of changing drivers or something in the same setup I'm using right now?

No need for logs, now that you solved it :)

If yours is one of the AVGA older models, then you can use CRT Emudriver on it, as a replacement for the original drivers. This makes the best of both worlds: 15 kHz boot, full flexibility in Windows (including non-15 kHz frequencies).
